I don't mind waiting. I have to save up for a new PC anyway.

Lets get everything ironed out for an awesome experience first.

I bought a new GPU the other day in anticipation of PS2, I don't play any games at the minute so I can't feel the benefits

I'd rather play than be lectured about patience. Been checking this site several times an hour for the last year.

Hmm I didn't really want to say much about it for fear of sounding like a idiot, but honestly people should hold off on getting minor upgrades or getting top of the line systems for now. My suggestion is just keep in mind that whatever you build now wont last more than another 1-2 years instead of the usual 3-5 years that most people get out of top of the line systems.

Now I didn't do any of this research myself, I'm only repeating a summery of what my guild leader has said on the subject of new computer systems. Also this is all 'iirc' stuff so I may be wrong a few specifics.

SSD drives are undergoing a HUGE leap in technology this winter'ish that will completely change how they work as well as will just about require new motherboard architecture. This tech will probably begin to show itself this winter to early 2013, however good solid technology of it from well known good quality brands probably wont show until Q3 2013.

At the same time there is also development of an 'APU'. Instead of a CPU (central processing unit) they're making an APU (accelerated/assisted processing unit) that has additional core functionality that should greatly speed up the processing power of video graphics cards. This is also in the works and probably wont be felt until roughly the same time frame as the SSD's and their new motherboard innovations.

ALSO in either 2012 or 2011 there was a warehouse fire that destroyed loads of HHD platter drives creating a shortage and thus kept the pricing on good quality HHD drives up.

In conclusion, PC hardware technology will be taking a huge leap in the next year making any PC's bought now with the idea of just upgrading it over time unattainable.

So my suggestion is just don't bother building anything 'to last' as anything made now will be not be compatible with stuff made in 2014 (don't know about Graphics cards, though).

there will be no need to "upgrade over time". if you get a decent pc built today, it WILL last you 3-5 years. period. and even if you wanted a new video card 2 years from now, it will still be using a pci-e slot on your mobo, and video card prices of today's cards aren't going down in the next few months.

video games in 3 years will still be using dx11. the consoles aren't even using dx11 yet. they're on dx9 at 720p and their next gen doesn't even have a release date, but all they plan to bring is dx11 and 1080p. we (pc) have had that for quite some time.

if anything, the next few years will result in many people finally getting rid of their ancient pc's running windows xp, and getting windows 7, as most people with pc's are not gamers.

Yeah, but you gotta think with the mentality of people that guy top of the line PCs. They like to keep that edge no matter what, so minor and moderate upgrades a piece at a time are typical.

Just saying that major tech upgrades are coming that are more than just the usual refinement of older technologies and just keep in mind that this new stuff wont be compatible with anything top of the line today.

Agreed, hopefully the investors are also on board with this thought

Anyway, it looks like they plan to launch limited Beta in Summer, probably be into Open Beta by Fall, and go for a Christmas release (or January), but I'm glad they are willing to delay that in necessary for the sake of quality control.

Take your time devs. I just want a release sometime this year. Even then, if it needs to wait... *sigh*... I'll understand. A rushed game is a bad game.

I, for one, am glad they've expressed an interest and concern over taking the time to get things right instead of rushing it to appease the fans. There's no competition pushing them to release first. There's no new console coming out they need to coincide the release date with. Nobody except those who have signed an NDA or are actively working on the game knows quite how things are going to work or play out once everyone starts playing the game. So please...HAVE PATIENCE. I find myself coming on these forums less and less because every day it's entire new pages of armchair quarterbacks griping about the game, calling out perceived flaws, and generally being loud and uninformed. I'm as eager as any to get into beta, and just built myself a new PC specifically for it (after not having touched a PC in over 5 years). But I would rather the devs take another 6 months to even begin beta than rush it and deliver a product they're less than comfortable with just to try and make the holiday rush.

So here's to the devs...cheers, thanks for all you've done so far, thanks for all you continue to do, and keep up the good work. I look forward to beta.

Outstanding troll, its never been done before.

Same here, DayZ was a good sink of my gaming time for quite a while. Though , I now have slowed down playing that. Then I started playing that Age of Chivalry mod for HL:2.

Thankfully, the PlanetSide festivities have kept me busy now, and hopefully will remain active at least some amount of time past July 1st.

LOL at some of you guys about tech advances. You don't know how lucky and inexpensive you have it now. I have heard the same arguements since I entered the industry in 1984. I worked on the IBM XT and PC Jr back then in Boca Raton Florida.

My 1st Personal Computer was a Tandy MC 10 with 4 k ram. A 5.25 floppy Diskette was called a Hard Drive. The 1st computer Game I played was Flight Simulator.
I had a 286, 486, and then a 586 call the IBM Pentinum 75. That computer cost me $9000.00 to run my hobby Wildcat BBS with 8 phone lines coming into my house before there was an internet that the public could use. 4 Internal Zoom 1200 bps modems and 4 external ones. A Scuzzie Hard drive back in the day that was fast. lol.

I just built a gaming computer for 2500 dollars. Thats a great deal compared to what I got way back when.

Buying a computer is worst then buying a car. Its obsolete as soon as you take it out the door. Just accept it.

And if it takes SONY till 2013 to release the game to get it right, then, I'll be waiting for it. So Devs take your time, do it right, and thanks for your insights into the game that you have given us so far.

I agree with the OP. This game is shaping up to be amazing, and I want to play it badly, but I'm willing to give the developers all the time they need to make the best game they can. I hope that the F2P model is giving them some well deserved freedom from the pressures of having a rigid deadline. After all, they don't have to worry about competing for sales because they aren't exactly selling the game to begin with.

I have no doubt that you that if you give the development team the time, the game will exceed your expectations.

They can take as long as they need to to release the game so I can take as long as I need to to get a new desktop that can run the game.
