BUT, they ARE NC, so they probably would use self-propelled rounds (aka giant bolter cannon).
Are these shells propelled explosives or solid slugs? I don't know. I just know they typically make explosive, high damage rounds slower moving in games because you don't really have to aim them to score a kill.

I agree, I'm a fan of the faster travelling tank shells. The dust stirring up after the shot implies a huge round travelling really really fast.

The reason I think the round speeds are perfect is because in a game like Planetside tanks having slow rounds gives the ability for smaller vehicles like the assault buggies to operate (for example trying to hit an ATV at medium - long range with a tank wasn't easy, and involved predicting where the driver was going).

Faster rounds for a tank like the vanguard would be game breaking because they hit so hard.

They're slow for gameplay purposes I'm sure. That way it rewards superior gunnery skills since you have to account for lead time, arc, etc at long range and/or fast moving targets.

That and the effective range of modern RL tanks is measured in thousands of meters, but each game cont is only ~8km across. The size of the game world is significantly diminished compared to RL, so the effective range of a tank weapons need to be adjusted accordingly or you'll have tanks shooting from one end of the map to the other. Slow arcing projectiles is an easy way to facilitate that.

And like Deflagrate pointed out, Lightnings and ATVs would get chewed up fast if MBT's had more-realistically-fast moving shells.
