I don't know about player bases, honestly. If they mean player OWNED, sure. But if it's a building sim then I don't see it being such a good idea.
I'd think the game would be about fighting to capture territory rather than deciding what corner you want to put your ficus in or what color you want your drapes to be.

Perhaps just a "Design a base Contest" or something similar would be enough. Then anyone who's eager can try it out and everyone else only needs to wait for new bases to get implemented in the game, which they would have to do either way no matter whether it's a player or a dev designing them.

I think it is an amazing idea/plan and hope to see it in game in the future. The bases could even be pre-built cookie cutter fortresses that outfits could purchase through resources. Then it would take x amount of resources a month to operate and maintain and say it could be attacked and once destroyed it could put a -15% penalty on the outfits gain in resources for 72 hours or something while it rebuilds.

So. Developers code a continent and worlds creating algorithm.
They generate a hundred worlds. Forgelight is an MMO engine after all ... There are some warpgate and spawning points. Off we go to conquer and explore. Starwars Galaxies is no longer online. But I'm imaging a melding and merger of the Planetside FPS style gameplay and Star Wars MMO and base development. Prhaps it's the ground game to compliment it when StarSide launches in a few years time. |

Only problem I saw with SWG player created cities is that they were mostly void of players. At least the little time I did play that game, that's what I saw. I'm interested to know what they have planned for this. Would be nice if they could come up with a basic idea to it and let the community know about it. Then have the community scrutinize and give suggestions on what might work.

If it's done as a free form environment where player built bases are actually in contestable territory, it could have the potential to be a genre redefining feature.
I'm not going to hold my breath on any of this though, I'm just going to take this to be another indication that player owned facilities are something they want to explore in the future. |
