They had a day night cycle in beta. It just disappeared, it didn't "Not work well" unless the devs decided it didn't. Night fights were some of the funnest times I had in beta of PlanetSide 1 and PlanetSide 2.

I don't recall that. I just recall one of the conts after a while being toyed with to make it "darker", but due to how lighting was done at the time, it had little effect on the ambient light of the environment, and just darkened the dynamic objects.

They removed it for good reason. There is a reason you wont find it in game where its not the main mechanic, and not a niche title. Same for movies, film stage work, paintings ETC..

Night is a Blue light was invented for just this reason in cinematography. Video games follow many cinematographic conventions.

Doesn't change the fact they were some of the funnest time's I've had in this game. Especially in PlanetSide 2, night fighting was amazing.

Fifteen minutes of pitch black night,illuminated by tracer fire and burning wreckage. For fifteen minutes the game changed completely and to me it was pretty amazing. Bring the night back to Planetside 2.

What about it was amazing? From a gameplay standpoint there's nothing fun about dying to guys because you happened to skipped over them/they're Vanu and are thus invisible by default. Especially since night vision just completely negates it, and any other form of camouflage anyway.

It might be for similar reasons as removing the fog from Esamir: as some players would be unethical and remove the effects some way or another, they could not justify handicapping other players.

Every weapon in the game can be equipped with night vision scoop. So it's your choice to allow that to happen or not.

I LOVED the night fights, Best part was how it was based on the moon. Early evening was like it is now and when the moon was overhead just a bit darker.... But that last 30 mins (i think it was usually was in a huge fire fight) when the moon was down was awesome. I remember i used to fire my rocket launcher into buildings to illuminate them before i would fully go in.

The one thing i remember that sold PS2 for me was on esamir right after it launched. We were assaulting a tower and it was that last 30 minutes. the AA turrets were on full blast throwing shadows and tracers everywere. 15-20 Mags were launching rounds into it throwing shadows. just HUGE amounts of tracers and fire. We came flying in with 3-4 fully loaded gals and i was piloting, to the west i could see this long column of TR vehicles only illuminated by a few head lights, behind me to the east a same number of VS vehicles doing same thing, and literally i was just floored. Best part is the Aurora Borealis was going strong too just loved it.

If there was a cycle much like the moons cycle allowing every few "nights" it was darker as there was no moon that would be the best way of balancing it out give those who crave the total darkness time in darknss but its not everytime it goes to night.

What would be awesome would be fitting a gal with loads of lights and come into a base and blind everyone with a bazillion watts of light as the trips drop out save them getting shot the second they hit the ground

Add to that monsoon rains on amerish dust storms on infat and snow storms on esamir you could have some real fun with the environment and nv would become a needed tool
