I'm more concerned about DX11, but with this games ram usage I guess 64-bit could address some issues. With the PS4 having a DX11 GPU, I don't see any reason to have a purely DX9 engine during this day and age. Be nice to see at least a DX11 patch for PS2 akin to what Blizzard did with WoW.

For actual teams. I don't think its a major shock if EQ next has a larger development team compared to PS2. I only hope PS2 is left with enough people if they were taken away to keep making improvements on the game. Be sad to see a graveyard team like what happened with PS1.

The PS2 engine doesn't have Voxels, therefore whatever was done w/destructible terrain etc will not transfer to PS2 at all.

they have mentioned before that they will continue to have the same team working on it. Higgles and T-Ray said they are staying with the game, or something like that. don't remember where i heard that from, i think it was when Higgles was asked questions on if the PS4 would impact development on PC PS2 during E3.

What with PS4 release coming around it's a pretty safe bet anything relating to these and multicore optimization will be released shortly before then.

*Edit* Apparently Goku beat me to the punch, damn super saiyans..!

At least one may have (@ALapidis) but overall I dont think its going to be enough to worry about.
Wouldn't be surprised if they work on both.

Some have definitely moved, probably mostly in the way of programmers and artists rather than anything else.

It might be worth asking an 'open' question of the devs. ie Do you expect there will be any 'bleed across' to PS2 from the work on the engine or anything else that is being done on EQ:N?

Although we expect the voxel stuff won't come across there is the stuff on DX11 and maybe there's something else we haven't considered.

If anyone is curious for EQ:N they purchased a third party API for their voxels called Voxel Farm. I think it's weird to say it won't transfer. It was added to the Forgelight engine running for Everquest Next so it's already been shown as possible to implement into their engine.

The PS4 will be running OpenGL. Currently their engine is Direct3D based. It sounds like the rendering speed-up they're hoping for on the PS4 is because of their modifications as they move over to something like OpenGL 4.2/4.3. (I imagine that's the version they're targeting since the PS4 should support up to OpenGL 4.3).

What EQN will directly provide is competition. I know they're both SOE, but still a competition would be great especially if you have seen Dave Georgeson's interview on Gamebreaker TV and his rather excited refusal to give PvP details ( I think they are scared that PvP will freak out PvE players so are focusing on PvE details for now).

PS2 atm doesn't have a real competition so they can put forth senseless NDZ, a VS NS helmet, and steadily won't balance the factions (c'mon a basic, essential necessity for pvp that we've been harping on since the beginning ). I feel this is going to get worse when PS2 becomes immensely popular with the release of PS4.

So, EQN, ESO, The Division, Warhammer EC, the more competition, the better. Not to mention the smaller sized MMO-hybrid like Star Citizen or Destiny.

I talked to several devs about it, the maps are designed completely different and the data is stored differently for the maps. Therefore, in order to build a continent (if it was implemented) it would have to be built from the ground up. It cannot be implemented on the fly into PlanetSide 2. Could it be done? Probably. But it would require starting over with maps and continents. Just because it was done doesn't mean it was done easily and is transferrable.
