Jeb, my advice to you is learn a new strategy.
I frequently kill any singular, or even multiple infantry units on my first pass at them. The trick is to ignore the above poster and use missles against infantry - the 70 mm just isn't enough punch for singular passes. Will you hit me with your first and only shot? Likely. Will you kill me with that first and only shot? No. Will my 10 or so missiles flying at you because of the incredibly quick re-fire rate on the Reaver kill you with my first pass? Yes. You'll be dead before your refire rate let's you fire a second missile. Cliffs Notes: 4 missiles only kill the reaver if the AV'er can fire all 4 missiles. That is all. |

All I have to add is land on the upper pads at bases when you come in for repairs and rearming. It makes it easier for us to get to you.
Also, do a straight landing job so we can get up there, the Nano- Dispenser has range issues. Give me a message @ Wintermute on the downshift server if you are NC. I'll meet you at a base. Just set your reaver or mosquito on an upper pad, unlock your trunk, and get personally rearmed. I'll reload you and fix you up.

Voll - Your right, your skills are unmatched and a poor infantry man like myself is simply outmatched by your leet skills. Unfortantely, I was speaking to the 99.9% of other reaver pilots. I would never assume to be able to scratch the surface of leetness.

I tend to load up on rockets and replace what gun ammo I have in the trunk with rocket pods. The rockets seem to do alot better for me (note: for me) than the guns. I just cant seem to line the guns up due to the alternating, beside the target firing, just throws me off too much. but I can drop a row of rockets across a towertop at full speed
Came up behind a galaxy last night and got right directly behind him and unloaded a full salvo of rockets into his cargo bay door, he bailed about 2 secs before it went up in smoke so I chased him around a tree for five mins trying to hit him with the guns, said screw it, landed nearby, popped my infiltration suit on and capped him in the back...If I want a badly firing inaccurate gun Ill just use the AMP and get an adrenaline kick out of it :P ::edit:: speeling Last edited by Ebonwulf; 2003-04-21 at 02:28 PM. |

First off know that 99% of all reaver pilots suck.
Spend some real time in VR and never fly higher then 2 feet off the ground. Learn to Tree bash, and hug terrain, these are the ONLY skills that keep a reaver alive. Also learn how to feather your afterburners you can cross a contintent at 140% if you do it right. I agree with the above person Chunk the MG ammo for 24 more rockets, gives you 96 total and increases the effective time of a Reaver Alot. Next the MG is great to fluster noobs, and on occasion take out a solo inf, but other than that, worthless IMHO. When attacking a ground target at 100% power fire low, Reaver rockets tend to stray high. Also don't worry about ammo, it sucks to fire 24 rockets to kill a grunt... but thems the breaks. Learn how to work with a squad!!!! Provide ground attacks... Scouting data, and other fun stuff. Escourt the Galaxy and the ANT don't let them ever go alone. And when your little squad is trying to take a base, and a nearby tower is digourging enemy troops... Concentrate on the MAX units the most. A slow moving MAX is Reaver Bait... one accurate pass and it's gone. The rest of the Grunts aren't that big of a threat to your troop, so let them handle them if you have better things to be doing. Also, a reaver is a big target that people like to shoot at. When your low on ammo start being a target. While the Baddies are shooting at you they are not shooting your squadmates. Once your squad decides where it's going, fly there first. Get an eyeball of who's there, then BLOW THE CRAP outa the vehicle console. Your squad is comming in without vehicles so deny them to the enemy. When flying with multiple Reavers try to establish flight areas. ie. we have 4 reavers around a tower, rotating. Get each to take an altitude and stick there, covering doors on that level. Nothing else. Mid-air collisions suck! And finaly. If you want to be topgun dog-fight king of the world... Fly a musquito. A good Skeater Pilot will knock down a great Revear pilot most ever time. For those of you (mostly NC on Searhus) who have been killed by a reaver named Mason... that was me PAX

Just realize small arms fire do almost nothing to Reavers, if someone is blasting away at you with a Punisher or something of the like, just stop, fire a few rockets and fly off. Unless the place you are attacking is packed with enemies, you will have a better chance taking them out by just hovering.
I, too, replace my bullets with rockets, thats all I ever use on ground units. The only time the machine guns are worthwhile is against other air vehicles where projectile speed is a must, and when you run out of rockets and have nothing else to shoot. Even then you should boost off, repair and reload, or just get a new Reaver. Oh, yes, against stationary ground vehicles, circle strafing works pretty well.

Now im not in beta, but for those who are, lets say you are stuck in a position where a missile is coming right at you and you are forced to fly backwards, or, you see a fellow buddy being chased by a missile, are missiles possible to destroy with your chaingun? I am so used to tribes, i forget PS has no flare grenades.

Jeb,
How about you realize I'm just telling it how it is. Any decent Reaver pilot knows to go in "passes" instead of hover firing. One pass is all it takes to kill any infantry man, regardless of armor. One pass typically takes less than 4 seconds. You. can. not. get. more. than. one. or. two. missles. off. from. your. pheonix. That = you dead, me alive. So, lay-up on the invalid conclusions, and realize what I'm really saying. In fact, I don't remember even claiming I was even any good at being a reaver pilot other than being relatively skilled. |
