and thinking that MMOs are immune to hacks and cheats is pretty foolish.

there have been hacks and cheats for almost ever MMO to date

As long as the game does server side CRC checks on your models and textures, it's going to be more of a pain for the llamas to hack. If they chose to allow skinning and custom models/meshes there'll be trouble.

think it's pritty hard to stop someone from using their own models, would require somewhat constant CRC checks or the guy could keep copying over his models after the CRC finds them(or more advanced, writes a program to intercept the games query to check the files, and replaces his files with the 'legit' ones, then switches back after the crc check

Tribes 2 had CRC checking. This was instituted after a member of the tribe i was in made an Aimbot for T2. it wasnt any good and it only worked offline mainly and with lasers///but it was there.

they made CRC checking to stop outside exe's, and to stop "cheat skins" like clear water and colored mines and turrets.

the constant checking lagged players during checks and eventually competition rules barred CRC checking.
--------------------------

that didnt matter anyway. HaPpY, creator of T1 Happymod which let you see enemy inidcators thru walls, see thru fog, made the flag 50x bigger, etc......created HappymodT2 that autowaypointed all enemy deployables.

it also could bypass CRC checking. other things made was an anti whiteout hack, and a skin that made cloaked players visible.
-------------------------

people with knowledge of this can and will get arund it

It'd be awfully annoying if PS somehow shut down all the programs you had running when it started, what if you're using daemon tools instead of the actual cd? Or running some sort of software firewall or the like?

That would be warez and it would be bad!

I highly doubt they would do something like that anyway.

I use daemon alot actually because I find I often lose cds.
Anyway, yeah, if they did do something like that I think they'd find a pretty major backlash.

I've long held that the real trick is to find the guys writing the hacks and subject them to email, voice mail and personal harasment. 'dat's just me tho, and I'm a bit of a prick when it comes to people ruining other people's fun with their little cheats.
