It has nothing to do with that. It was simply more catching than 745, 222, 923, etc..

Maybe you should read. It contains information about 616, like the fact it is the earliest number of the beast found, before it was edited to 666 for convenience and to round it off (like most of the infancy gospels, for example where Mary referred to Joseph as Jesus's father)

Thanks MrkWalmsley, I do read links I post. In the context of your original statement, you would understand that 616 and 666 are accepted variants of each other, 666 is socially accepted and more popular in the U.S.--therefor more catchy. Additionally pig already said that had nothing to do with it, I'm only rebutting the statement regarding the number and not the name, since I wasn't around in PS1.
