Space on rails = Twitch mechanics? They don't want that and would rather the EvE system of point and click ability game play? Interesting. I thought most space game models were going to the twitch game play system.

I really do, because the whole thing just seriously pissed me off. But I'm trying to maintain a degree of professionalism. On top of that, it doesn't behoove me to speak ill of a company that puts food on my table and a roof over my head.
Space on rails: your path is pre-determined. You get a small degree of manoeuvrability and the ability to jink about, but your path is ultimately locked in. EVE's point and click system is unique, and by unique I really mean lame. I don't like either systems - I would prefer a completely free-form simulator feel, especially one where I can use my joystick. But that's just me personally. Also: what other space game models are you talking about? |

Want to know who had the Space Sim all wrapped up and perfected?
LucasArts. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. Three of the best space sims of all time. I remember tearing up punks in my T/I back in the day. Ahhh, the thrill of going into combat without shields! But, from an epic saga standpoint, I don't think anyone could touch Wing Commander. Each decision either helped or cost you. It wasn't the old "Do mission, get next mission" thing either. They really brought in both elements of a space sim and a storytelling standpoint. Now if Bioware can mix what they're doing with TOR into a space sim/saga standpoint, they'll have a subscriber for a lifetime.

Been beta testing since the beginning of the month. The way they lay out the quests really makes me feel like I am part of the saga. I think they nailed the character creation. The voice acting is top notch. I love my Siths voice. I hope that I can get a chance to select my voice in the character generation screen. Love the cities. Reminded me of City of Heroes on how it really made you feel like you were in a city.
Count me as someone who is looking forward to this game. Next test I'm going to go the Jedi route I think.

It's official 12/20/11.
Just in time for Christmas, although it feels like it might be cutting it too close. Perhaps it's not quite ready yet, but they have to get it out so I wouldn't be surprised to see it being very buggy at first. |

I could write a long list of reasons why it doesn't interest me, but I sum it up with the most salient point:
I hate the stupid looking art style of the characters and if I hate looking at something, why the heck would I pay a monthly fee to look at it? Oh, that's right, I wouldn't. Also, box fee? lawl get with the times ya bunch of no confidence in yer product cash grabbers... Playing and loving SWG until it closes, then moving on to EQII until PS2 and EQN come out. I may finally try STO and DCOU when they go F2P as well. |
