I started a thread asking the folks at Mordor about this. You may follow it at your leisure:

Also judging from the link this thread isn't really about PS2 at all... But the 2143 expansion which would be totally awesome... If they don't butcher it. Last edited by Bittermen; 2012-04-11 at 03:24 PM. |

I know someone like this. It's just the games he plays and his brother being in the army probably pushed it too. It's just like music, like some, don't like others. I guess in modern games you know how each gun works and there are no surprises. There is always that one weird foreign gun in every CoD that everyone freaks about when they learn about it because it reloads weird or looks weird.
I guess it is similar to how I can not play a RPG where all the males have long colorful hair and swords ten times bigger than their arms. There is just something about those kinds of games that I don't like. Guess it's the same for people and shooters. |

They aren't allowed to talk about Planetside 2 on those forums if I recall correctly, so he made it about 2143. |

Yea I was in middle school when Halo was in it's prime. Now it's like people who play Halo Reach are childish...
When all these guys play is CoD which features a significantly lower skill ceiling. I also find that I read novels that are science fiction(and military scifi at that).. although I'm sure if I picked up another genre(and it was well written) I would read it.

I read the mordor forum page. It seems that there is either purely a preference to modern games, to each his own, or there are people saying they don't care as long as its not overly sci-fi. I don't see how PS/2 would be considered very sci-fi. Vanu would be the most sci-fi thing in the game, but other than that I guess MAX suits and cloakers?
TR/NC still shoot bullets, VS weapons still have recoil and bullet drop, just less, there are tanks that look modern, and modern planes. Its their preference to play or not. Why trick them into playing a game they would hate? |

"*Sigh* Make the game in modern era. I really dont like sci fi future games for fps. "
"I really don't mind the futuristic theme... what I do mind is: Super bunny hopping. Lathers, lazers, lasers. Ultra shiny squeaky armor. Alienth. Swift smooth controllable flying. Open, flat landscapes without any features or undergrowth. Anti-gravity anything. "My Little Ponies" color pallet (even for camos!!!) Silly looking futuristic weaponry." "No thanks " "There are jetpacks in PS2. Just sayin'." "I also mind sci-fi when it's all about lasers, lightning guns, teleporting, or soldiers looking like they do in Gears of Wars, but when there's cool mechanical stuff like spinfusors, then it's awesome. Hard to argue with that." Those are quotes by the end of page 2. Again, its people who prefer the modern games. Anything else they mentioned is overly sci-fi. There are no magical death lasers, no jetpacks that allow you to fly above the map picking people off, no guns that shoot lightning, muffins, rainbows, glitter, or raptors. Any other gripe I read was based on the map of Tribes which was apparently barren and built for that style of game. They're either just hating to hate or they dont prefer the game. No big deal, they can play what they want. |
