Although, I do have a clarification, would OW be an elimination tournament or just random matchups among registered outfits?
Outfit wars in PS1 was a round robin, each outfit played 6 rounds, there was ment to be a tourniment after that but some emerald outfits went emo after some outfits went defensive on them and they failed to adapt, cried heaps on the forums about it because they got a draw and SOE shut it down.

Re: Outfit wars

this thread is silly, there are going to be so many ppl playing PS2 that two outfits missing for an hour or so isn't even going to register.

DCUO went f2p and had 1000% uptick in subs right after it went live, it crashed SOE's log in server,Smedly was tweeting about the user load, how they never expected that kind of interest and he was apologizing like a mad man LOL

that was over 550k new subs,if we get anything like that response there are going to be plenty of ppl running around waiting to be farmed.

shit COD sold over $700 million in 5 damn days,if SOE puts some real money into game promotion PS2 could easily hit a million subs in the first three months.

and here we have ppl worried about two outfits running off to fight each other, its friggin comical.

instead of posting here go find a gamer forum and register and spread the word, its easy to do.

Thought about this today after seeing totalbiscuit at e3 . The idea of a semi-regular event ,team ladders and stuff struck a chord with me.

Was about to make a thread then realised this had already been brought up, hence the necro thread.

Fit within a live environment . Even stuff like the rabbit event could be brought in to the whole sub-culture of being a competitive team based war game.

The mission system almost cries out for it . Sign your team up , then at some appointed time each of the sides team leaders would get their objectives and 30 mins to complete . Simultaneous objectives on-the-fly , Stop what you are doing and get to x /defend y etc.

Having the likes of TotalBiscuit streaming it and giving his usual jovial commentary ''cactus 2 ,delta triad 0 '' would be such great post-launch coverage of the game

I think a lot of people here might be missing the point of what outfit wars really is. In PS1 it was an event that came about to breath a little change of pace into a game that was rapidly becoming more and more stale. The game needed anything to break up the endless three-way bridge battles on Cyssor. I thought it was a great idea and a fun way to change up the pace, even though it was horribly executed.

Implementing it into PS2 would be a nice idea, but it shouldn't be a feature that's 24/7 where people can queue up or something along those lines. If it was some sort of annual event that occurs perhaps during a holiday season might work out well. In this way it becomes something that a lot of people start looking forward to; "Will outfit X be able to defend their championship this year?"

I think this is an awful idea and I don't think it fits within the realm of the game. If it was a rare, special event on a special server I might not be opposed to it, but even then I hate the idea and think it will pull too many people from the main battles/detract from the main gameplay.

Even if it was a "Scheduled" event, it would still pull people away

If we, as outfits, have some means to own bases so that it shows up on the map as such then this will happen regardless. Plus that would fit in the universe. There are some outfits out there that I would love to battle over a base with.
I think this is a bad idea as well, especially with friendly fire always on. Can you imagine trying to take a base, then getting killed by your own faction because they want it to show up on the map as theirs?

We already know Higby and Maggie are fans of esports. This should, and i dare say, wool happen. It should be am annual event, last a couple of weeks taking place in a small instanced location between two Outfits at a time in a tournament format. It should be SOE-organised and if you don't want to take part you don't have to.

That would not impact the success of the game at all and should keep everyone happy. The key is to only hold it once a year.

What's the player count presumed to be in this game? Pulling thirty players from two factions isn't going to cause a major impact to anything else in the game. Doing it for several days annually is HARDLY detracting anything from the overall game.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that a lot of people on here crusade against anything BF/CoD and yet here, right in this thread, are asking for a BF/CoD-like match ability for outfits?

This, pretty much.

First of all, this match ability you're attributing to Battlefield and Call of Duty has been around far longer than those games have been. They didn't invent that. Second of all, this match ability is still within the framework of PS2 meaning each outfit still has to use the equipment and tactics in the game to succeed, albeit on a smaller scale.

And third of all, this match ability is not something that's desired as a permanent fixture of the game. It's something that happens every now and again, like ANNUALLY for a little something fresh. I don't get why people keep glossing over this point.

Still ironic.

Can't really remember any big multiplayer-focused combined arms game before BF1942.
