If the gamepad cannot compete with the Kb./Mouse then I wouldn't want to subject the two types of players to each other, much less force them to. How about an option, have gamepad only servers and keyboard/mouse only servers, for both platforms. At least have 1 single test cross-platform server to try this out. If it doesn't work then we have to live with that. |

Then again, maybe that won't be needed. Gamepad gamers would learn the hard way that going into that server means getting killed faster. And people actually using the keyboard and mouse would stay. I'm all for it. But somehow, I don't see console gamers putting in the effort with the keyboard and mouse for just one game. If it was that simple, RTS games would be on consoles. |

As for prevention of input device, simply disable the gamepad when logging into the keyboard/mouse server. |

Unless there's a way to disable the gamepad through just the server? |

I would assume so. I wasn't suggesting it needed to be a hardware specific thing on the console itself. Just don't allow the controller to be used on the server. But as said b4, perhaps that doesn't have to be a thing. Let them use the gamepad but make it apparently clear that the server allows both keyboard/mouse as well as gamepad. And that it's more opitmal to play with the keyboard and mouse. I get finger/hand cramps when I did try on console FPS games in the past. Does that go away after playing for a while though? Do people adapt and get good with the gamepad, just as a keyboard/mouse player? IDK....
I hear people say it sucks to play with a gamepad but I don't know that for sure. I hate using a gamepad cause I'm used to keyboard and mouse. Perhaps SOE can make the gamepad just as viable as the keyboard/mouse? IDK.... Last edited by Crator; 2013-06-10 at 10:15 AM. |

I'll say this much for gamepads. They give me thumb cramp. I can use them but they give me thumb cramp. Only because of those tumb sticks.
Making touch pads in the same size would have been more effective I think. Last edited by Taramafor; 2013-06-10 at 10:18 AM. |

If I may offer an opinion on PS2 on the PS4,
I think we should share the gameworld with the PS4 community for a few reasons. 1) Streamlined server/game updates. If everyone is on the same server, theoretically server side and client side updates should be universal. Easier for the dev team, easier for both communities, everybody wins. 2) Increased server pops, more people to befriend/kill. Larger battles are always a plus. Game population for the game increases, PS2 gets more attention from Sony the more revenue it pulls in. Again everybody wins. 3) In a greater concept, it shows that the PS4 is more open source, and if their games can meld with PC ones, I believe it would be the first time in gaming history where two platforms can share the same world without paying a subscription fee (please correct me if I am wrong). Even if its not the first time, it would still be a major AAA Shooter F2P that can go cross platform. This would benefit again both the PC community and PS4 community. 4) It is possible that we are overrating the Keyboard and Mouse combination vs controller in PS2 specifically. Maybe we aren't, but it is possible since while there are some examples that support it (legitimate ones I might add) we don't know how it would affect in a large scale battle, as I don't believe that has ever been tested. So therefore if we were to mix game worlds, it might not be the worst experience for PS4 players. And if it is, they can always seperate it later. 5) PS4 is expected to have native K+M support, which I think is great. PS2 was designed for the PC FIRST, not the other way around like it is for most shooters. I think that once PS4 players get used to a keyboard and mouse, I think a strong amount of players overall will switch to it. Results are the most important thing, if players see desirable results with a K+M, then players who think its better will make the switch. I hope that Sony doesn't make a decision to not combine servers based of the control scheme, especially when K+M is an option for the PS4. I think it would be a significant development in gaming to allow cross platform play, and would definitely do more to benefit gaming in general, than not. We'll see what they do. |

Look, this is a really simple issue to understand; cross platform would be bad for business and bad for the players.
Mouse and keyboard absolutely destroys console controllers for infantry play, this is just self evident and doesn't need to be explained. And all issues with cross platform stem from this. Console players will get sick of being at a very obvious disadvantage and many of them will quit the game because of this. Worse, many of them will keep playing but complain and abuse other players in game ("fight me like a real man mouse ***!"). And the flip side of this is you do not want console players on your team! If there is some indicator ingame that a player is on the PS4 they will suffer massive prejudice against them, even if they are an acceptable player, getting booted from squads and being abused by PC players. Don't even argue about this, you know it is the truth and most people here will agree that they will not want console players in their squads. Which again leads back to a terrible game experience for the console players which will lead to them leaving the game in droves. The idea that console players will learn to adopt a keyboard/mouse setup for their PS4 is just not realistic. People play their consoles in their living room and it is a pain in the ass to get a comfortable mouse and keyboard setup for sitting on the couch. Some people will but it will be a very small percentage of players and is absolutely not a viable solution to the issue. Last edited by exile; 2013-06-10 at 07:38 PM. |

Controllers are inherently inferior to a mouse for aiming. I know some guys who really impress me with how good they are on an XBOX controller, they run very high sensitivity and still manage to be quite accurate, but controllers just can not move as quickly as a mouse. And in order to compensate for this they are forced to run very high sensitivity, which almost all skilled mouse players will agree is detrimental to accuracy. Is anyone seriously questioning this? And the issues with setting up a mouse and keyboard in the living room is just common sense. What would you put them on? If you are sitting on the couch you would need to move a special table into position to be at the right height, or else hunch down over a coffee table in an awkward position. Like I said, some people will do this, or have a proper desk and chair setup they use in front of the TV, but the vast majority of people will not be bothered. Even if 50% of people adopted a mouse and keyboard (which I think is ridiculous, I would guess even 10% would be optimistic) then you still have half of the console players suffering from a major disadvantage (in infantry play at least). |

If they had pushed Planetside 2 to use DX11 on ultra and it was shown that the game would evolve with hardware then I'd agree that it could age gracefully. My hope now that they showed that the PS4 is utilizing tessellation shaders in some of their new games that they'll introduce it to Planetside 2 and up the triangle and texture quality to make the game truly evolve over time. Ultra settings at the very least should have been aimed for future hardware like the max graphics in Planetside 1 were. (Or at least I didn't know anyone in Planetside 1 playing at max settings. It was years after launch until I had a PC that could do that).
