Unreal. This game brought me from the mundane world of the office I worked in to an eerie, amazing 3D world for the first time!
Deus Ex: the first one. This brought me, again, into a whole new world, but one where alternative ways of thinking about government were the main point of the game, and the outstandingly realistic scenarios were just the delivery system. And, the ability to go two different routes, too, was cool. Unreal Tournament: playing against actual people. Mechwarrior series: Ultra-customizable mechs made for intelligence-heavy gameplay. Planetside: runined my life for nine years.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn Half Life 2 Mass Effect (haven't played 2) Fallout 3 Titan's Quest (Diablo clone I like better than Diablo) Fable Torchlight (Another good Diablo clone, my brother says the new one is exceptional!) Mechwarrior (series, I think my favorite was MW3) Jupiter: The Nexus Incident (I'm a total sucker for space RTS, good graphics, fleet customization, and true Newtonian physics) Myst (who hasn't played that game?) Civilization (series, preferably II, preceded by Colonization way back when) Commander Keen (series, favorite was 5 and 6) Kings Quest (series, I don't recall my favorite) Raptor: Call of the Shadows (best arcade-style scroller ever, possibly excepting the very similar Raiden) Klingon Academy (oh the destruction!) Star Trek: Starfleet Command (series) Star Trek: 25th Anniversary (yes, I was a Star Trek geek) Star Wars: Galaxies (I quit not long after the combat upgrade patch) Star Wars: Jedi Knight (series) KOTOR (duh) X-Wing: Alliance (I missed out on Tie Fighter but loved this sequel) Honestly, I almost want to just expand this list out to most of the games I ever played for more than 10 minutes, but the reality is that it would probably end up being a list of almost every Star Wars and Star Trek game ever made between 1995 and 2005. My brother and I are/were huge sci-fi nerds. It's a shame the quality of sci-fi games has been so poor in the last few years. Or maybe it's just that I don't play all the games I used to, and I'm missing some really good stuff. Regardless, wake me up when someone makes Freespace 3 or Homeworld 3!
