The bard so roxors, I have no idea what you're talking about.
BTW Spee, having players talk it out amongst themselves BEFORE the campaign is started is so defo not illegal. It's called strategizing. I don't know where you get your rules from, but if WoC says that then wow, ignore it. If they haven't even picked a character how on earth is it out-of-character knowledge? I would assume that if this band of adventurers have been travelling together they would have some idea of how each other works, at least. And whats wrong with having two of the same class? Sometimes that's even better! Two clerics - One healing everyone whilst the other lays a holy smack-down on the zombie lord that's currently pwning the fighter. Two fighters - One charges into the fray while the other stays behind to make sure that nasty hobgoblin doesn't come in from behind them. Two mages - One rains fiery death and destruction on the n00b goblins while the other casts haste/prot. from normal missles/resist fire on the rest of the gang when the uber fast flaming arrow shooting bitch-monkies ambush all ya'll. See what I mean? You shouldn't tell your guys that they can only have one of each type in a game. Ah well, your scenario though, can't tell you how to run it. Bah I'm done bitching now. Sorry.

Picking character class dependant on strategies already developed lends ot the air of disbeleif. You dont *suddenly* become equipped for the job if youve been doing something else your entire life. If youve spent 20 years fighting, youre not going to become a cleric simply because "Hey. Itd be nifty if we had a cleric." and, while it would, Im assumning they mean a cleric that can DO something. Ill allow multiclassing, but theyll have to start from scratch. And, as per the one class thing, its a quirk of the campaign. Each class has a specific knowledge about the workings of this castle and people. Thus, if we have double-classes, that will give an air of "Well, Im kinda not needed" which is NOT what I want. This is a combat-LIGHT campaign. MAYBE 4 or 5 fights. MAYBE. The entire point of this campaign is to see how well the PC's can manipulate others.

At the same time I see your point, and it's certainly valid for you to run your game that way. As far as the whole example you gave, I'm not quite sure but it sounds like you don't allow players to have more than one character (not actively playing, of course) at the same time? Maybe I read it wrong, if so then forget all about it, lol.
Ok I promise I will shut up, lol.
