The reason that the tribes community has such an elitist attitude is becausse it is one of the FEW FPS games that actually requires skill, and the more skill you have the better you are.
It's not like Planetside where no matter how good you are you WILL get taken out by a newb occasionally (sometimes often). In Tribes you have to master movement as well as combat, and then combine the two in a wonderful blend of pwnage. There are no lucky kills in Tribes. It's your skill vs theirs, with tons of ways to express that skill in different ways (accuracy, movement, tactics, sneakiness, etc). |

True, and i wont defend those individuals or guilds who took over entire servers and ruined them for the casual gamer. However, i alot of the bitching I see on T1 and T2 servers came from un-skilled newbers who bitched and cryed foul because a pro hit them in mid air with a disk launcher from 500 meters away.
People need to understand that tribes is not your everyday FPS. It's even more skill controlled than Halo (which is extremely skill based, pistols). Your going to have to understand going into the game that your either going to have to be one of the best, or your going to get raped. |

I never got into any of the Tribes community. I just stuck to my Tribe's fourm and other Tribe's forums. That's all the community I needed.

I think that certain people are overreacting to the community. To be honest, the Tribes community isn't bad at all. I was involved in many European Tribes forums and such back when it was actually considerably popular, as well as currently being involved in then T3O forums, and it's pretty fine.
The community that does suck is Tribalwar, but everyone else in the community knows that. The trick is to just avoid them - they may be big, but they're not like the only Tribes community in existence like PSU is to PS. There are alternatives - use them! (yes this is a blatant ploy to attract people to the Tribes3.org forums which I personally try to keep in good order, but what I said is true - just avoid TW and all will be fine). With that said, Tribalwar can be okay at times. It's just that there's a horrible and unfortunate mentality there which involves completely outcasting newcomers and judging people entirely upon their title. Either way, don't let such an insignificant part of the community hamper your gaming - I went on for at least a year whilst playing T2 without even being aware that Tribalwar existed, and simply occupied other forums. Sorry to go on, I just feel that it's a shame to ignore what is a potentially brilliant game for the sake of a few slaptards on a forum. |

The -CDL- made it to number 5 on the TWL ladders (T2 16 man) and we never saw any respect whatsoever from the Tribes community. It was simply because we were not "one of the elite" teams that frequented the forums and we weren't accepted in the TW community either. It may also have been that after we made that rung, instead of dropping off the ladder, we fought our way all the way back down it.
It was a hard road for us as a team, but we agreed as a team that if we fought our way up, we should fight our way down - and we did. But not once did we ever gain any respect from anybody, on the contrary, we were ridiculed and mocked. That pretty much ruined that community for me. I was very disgusted in how they behaved and how they sliced and diced my team. We may make a try for a competitive team in T:V, but if we don't I don't think we will be missing much in the way of community.

i never stuck around the community, back then i was a little kid i didnt even know what forums were
but the game was very frustrating at times the only thing i was good at was the holocaust mod in t1 it had a weapon called the rpm, which was mortar missile that seeked if you fire when the crosshair was on the person, well i totally owned with that thing, and the D:B guys thought i was good with it so i joined their clan i think i was like 9 when that happened playing tribes was pretty much just exploring the mods and playing with friends my age
