I feel that hotdropping should be standard equipment. An advanced gal pilot could have certs that improve their ability to hotdrop.
-Increased drop maneuverability, so you can have a bit of control over where you land instead of falling. 10-20m of lateral movement.. enough to fine tune the landing point. -Increased drop speed. Get the kids out of the car and on the ground faster! Less warning time. -Radar stealthed drop pods that don't show up on radar, and possibly a more advanced version that has a cloak until you land. -A temporary radar stealth for the gal, and perhaps a temporary shield on a long cooldown, that facilitates dropping with surprise and into hot LZs, respectively. Likely a choice between the two rather than both at once. |

With the addition of drop pods for on-squad spawns, what if the Gal were use them and turn into more of a one-use vehicle. You could land and let everyone off or have them use pods to drop instead. The advantage would be a substantial degree of armor for dropping units and the ability to kill anyone you land on. The obvious downside would be needing to go back to a base to reload the pods but you're already going back to get reinforcements so it's not much of a delay.
On top of Cutter's suggestions, you could also add-ons like on-landing short-term shield bubbles and maybe built in pod weaponry to use on the way down. edit: Also, it helps to get around questions of drop cameras and unloading animations.

This was something they said couldn't be done in the original Planetside. What's funny is there was an older shooter, Delta Force Land Warrior, where there were pre-pathed Blackhawk helicopters that players could board, ride to a destination in free-flow form, shoot from, and jump out of.

And BF1942 had player driven vehicles that were the size of modern fps maps, and you could drive vehicles on the vehicles.
PS just felt that shooting out was too much effort for the payoff, or a can of worms they didn't want to open. |

I don't know if this already has been suggested, but what i think what would also be nice is if you are a pilot, you could push a button on your keyboard (lets say J ), and if you push that button, an notice comes up on the other people's screen who are in the dropship that they need to jump.
I always found it annoying for example in Battlefield 2142 that when i an piloting a transport with some people in, and i needed them to jump out at a specific point, i first needed to get into the commo rose and then select jump out. With will lose control of the vehicle for a few seconds. |

This is why we have macros: press F6 and spam "/l GO GO GO!" This is why we have coordinated outfits that practice jumping over a target so they know when to exit the aircraft. |

Would it really be *that* bad if you could shoot out of the galaxy with the ramps open? First of all you might be REALLY high in the air, away from maximum distance of your weapon. Second, if you are going fast and low, it would be hard as well to target anything.
If it is a big balance issue just have a weapon lock inside the galaxy cabin similar to the weapon lock we have in sanctuary and it ends when you leave the galaxy cabin. |
