Are they going for that stylized look to make it look like an imperfect projection on a curved surface? Or is it just an odd camera angle?

I'd chalk it up to it just being the camera angle. It is a picture taken of a moniter after all. Plus the UI is still a WIP, so I wouldn't read too much into it at this point.

I don't know, but I like it.

A HUD should never get in the way, I prefer a much more out of the way HUD that just gives me the information I need. That being said, even with a simplistic look the HUD does make me think it is projected onto the helmet of the pilot with that curved distortion.
