I think for most players, you start playing and you just know. The reasons may vary, but generally, you just know.

The exception tends to be players who go with x faction because that's what their friends or outfit mates went for, but for the most part, there is something about one side or the other that just speaks to you.

When I got the first game (shortly after launch), I saw the box art with the faux VS MAX and thought it looked weird but interesting. I like sci fi, so I thought it would be fun (and an MMOFPS, awesome). Along those lines, I first made a VS character due to them being the most sci fi empire.

There was never really any going back after that. I tried all of the other empires, but none of them spoke to me like playing as the VS.

I really enjoyed the VS community on Johari at the time as well. Good times.

The head of the division in the clan chose VS, why I'm not sure as he even looks back on it and offers up the fact that 'um, we could try a different color?' But it's too late, he locked that ship on course and we can't seem to stray for more than an alternate character or two.

Also, in any sporting event i watch i route for the underdog (I'm Philly... I'm still hoping there's a Time Machine to go back a week and maybe the Flyers will get it right this time) and the VS just 'seem' like the underdog to me. I'm not saying they are, though populations back in the day could support the argument i suppose.

My only regret is i wish we had played more outside Markov, more of Emerald specifically, there seems to be as much of a community over there as it was for us, i feel we missed out isolating ourselves on one server.

I have never played anything but VS. I've tried all ES weapons and vehicles, but I would never reroll NC or TR.... I probably wont do it in PS2 either.

Choosing your empire in this game holds so much more weight than choosing an allegiance in any other MMO imo.

I prefer the TR for a few reasons:
aesthetics
The strong, ordered government, and especially considering that the the other options are a corporate(something run by fear and greed) run rebellion, or a bunch of people who worship a glorified alien i-pod.

the new back stories are good. reading them helps me see the backgrounds of the factions. might help in makin a choice. i like seeing the stories and seeing the history of these guys. makes for a good read so far. cant wait to see more.

Tr because we are the most organized on every server. We are the Law, and provide the security for the free honest people on Auraxis, and stand up for all mankind. This vid is a small example of what the TR do every day. This just one outfit. TR have Multi Outfit Alliances as well. That makes this vid seen here as small scale.

The NC are Outlaws to be over powered, They are run into the ground by their own corporations.
