What he described in that he wrote is my dream game, Like you fighting inside a big ship and outside you can see fighters fly by the windows in a crazy space war, When at the same time the cannons on the ship blast of huge laser beams towers an other ship faaaaaaar in the distance. You run down to the hangar deck to see fighters being lunched outside the huge hangar window (star ship trooper style). Alarms go off the ship is going down, every one race to the Drop pods - life boats - galaxy ships. And this would be just awesome if they could do: 1. Bind TOGETHER the ps2 map and the new game - so you can go DOWN to the earth from space ! (it would be doable with our technology now). Like then you have to guard the galaxy's dropping from space, or when the ship is going down, the pods become like the "Drop in Max pod". 2. If or when the ship gets hit ( the big ship ) - make it roll so you really feel the hit in the side, Maybe not as much as walls becomes floor, But at least so it get you off aim. |

I do agree and would hope it rivals COD and BF3. but the comunity won't reach as far being a pc only title. I am afraid of a movie though maybe a series of short episodes but games and movies have this real nasty mix that just ends up causing shame.

Not on the PC platform. Why? Halo isn't on PC or Microsoft releases only old versions of it on PC hence the PC community doesn't give a rat's behind about Halo because we never get to play the latest version of it and that breed animosity toward the whole IP.

Star Wars is a pop culture/media juggernaut. I seriously doubt Planetside would ever reach that point. Same goes for movie possibilities. The lore in PS is pretty weak. So unless they start writing books that take place in the Planetside universe, I don't see it happening.
I think PS2 is going to have a massive number of people try it, and like it. I just don't see it hitting even halo on console numbers (it doesn't have to to be successful anyway). I think people need to curb their expectations just a tad (and a lot of people in this thread have, which is good to see!)

i dont think the lore is that weak, i just think you need to look to the main source of the game, the players.
me and my friends, as well as anyone else playing this game since 03 could sit for hours recounting war stories in teh way a ww2 vet might. the game gives us the backround and all the info we need. you get any long time player to give the story at a personal level, and you got a movie. |

Nah, I can't see it being huge. It'll be bigger than Planetside 1, but because the markets grown since then, but in the grand scale of things, still a niche.
And, as the guy a couple above said, the lore is pretty poor. But enough for the game itself, but as for extended stuff, they'd really need to extend the lore. Planetside seems to be one of those things that is highly rated (E3 anyone?) but for some reason, can't quite jump into the limelight as much as its acclaim would suggest it deserves. As for console expansion, I think I'd be sorely disappointed if it did. Selfishly, unashamedly, disappointed. This is a PC game . . . Planetside was always the one I used on my pilock console humper mates ... "yeah well I can get comfy on my couch when I play" "yeah well I can play Planetside so shove that up the backside of your one trick pony console" |

As said earlier, I think it'll be bigger than PlanetSide, but other than that not much more. Star Wars and Halo are powerhouses in the industry, and appeal to a much larger demographic than PS. If PS2 does do well and shows signs of being active for a long haul, I'd still like to see some expanded lore and additions to the franchise through expansions or maybe a new game set in the same universe.

If they commissioned someone to write a book series that developed the general ideas the game has now, then it could be more (still not getting to SW or Halo. I'm a fan of neither of these btw).

I don't see PS ever, -ever-, getting enough sandbox to touch SWG much less EVE in complexity. There's no base for lasting impact. Even if they add conts that are just for outfit bases (see: nullsec), it'll be a pale shadow.
Use EVE/SWG as inspiration but not comparison.

Franchise wise I very much doubt it. Reason being is halo/star wars are stories with well developed characters which makes it easier to branch off into different mediums. Planetside is more about tactical play and shooting people in the face. Not to say it wont do well, I'm sure it will be the league of legends of FPS shooters.
