Wut?
Guh? Sony is managing the servers ANYWAY.. so I see.. To me the segregation just reached new levels of mind fuck. If they can IP-lock entire regions why can't they have the shop detect where the player is and send them to the appropriate host site for the cash shop? Or is that too much to ask for from an ingame shop browser? |

For example, in germany you've got overprotective people/ laws to save german public from falling into anarchy but in other eu countries its more moderate. As a german myself, Ive normally bought games like Battlefield from countries like uk or usa to make sure I'll run amok like all other countires of the world except for germany so my question is if there are any examples for what might happen with planetside2 here in eu under the given circumstances? The game is f2p for everyone so what will they do? One game version for every eu country? One for all? I just dont wanna end up playing a hello kitty version of ps2 just because i live in germany on a regional locked server. A possible guess is that there will be game versions for every particular country in eu so that I'll have the chance to buy it from england. What puzzles me is what happens when its free download only? |

I'm going to play Planetside 2 no matter what and give Pro7 a fair chance, it's up to them to keep me. I'm sure they know by now just how strong our feelings towards this game are.
By and large the gaming community isn't very forgiving these days. *Canaris throws the ball into Pro7's court* let's do this thing!

But then they also know that we will take whatever crap they give us just to be able to play the game?

That's up to them, there's several ways to do it. The most obvious would be to tie the version you get to your IP address. This is how Steam handles it, meaning if you download TF2 (a F2P game) from inside Germany you get the low violence version, end of. To be really nasty it could check your IP address each time you log into the game, if it sees you're in Germany it'll activate the low violence mode. In this case you'd have to log in through a proxy each time you want to play, or use some kind of patch/hack to force the normal game mode (there's something like this available for TF2).
Alternatively they wouldn't need to check IP addresses, your billing information already tells them where you live. But it's not even clear that PS2 will have a low violence version, it all depends on how much naughty stuff the government says is bad for us is in the vanilla version. |

I've wondered why we will have to make a ProSieben account. Why not just make it as simple as possible and use our SOE accounts everywhere. Let SOE take care of the servers/development and let ProSieben take care of all the marketing?

Haven't read all 40-odd pages (can you blame me?)...but..
... it keeps pings down. 2000 players on a cont (or whatever is) is a huuuuuge amount of data to shift and, imo, the game needs to be able to run in the sub 50's ping-wise to make best use of this "fps first" hoowaa. Also as a foot note, I'd like to add that I'm quite pleased at the prospect of not being called a ****** every 5 minutes by some pie-faced american 13 year old (F2P FTW). I've nothing against any American with a brain Just hate those kids. Just hate that word. |

"And regarding IP-Lock and account-concerns: We are currently in discussion with SOE about that and might come up with a solution all SOE-Players will like."
