I don't like the region lock.
Not only does it break up guilds, but it hurts off-peak hours where often times it is the Oceanic/Euros that keep the game running while the US-timezone is sleeping/working. Having people from all time zones helps keep the battle rolling 24/7. Not having those folks in there will just exacerbate the off-peak times. |

Are you genuinely retarded SOE? Find me one active guild that is purely American or Euro. If you region lock us, you split basically every guild. Good luck getting ANY original PS players back if you do that. After all that's happened, I honestly didn't think you could get any worse, but look at this, you have. The last thing that was as bad as this was hiring Brewko. For shame.

ok, we got answer from soe and pro7 that they are discussing the issue and that both companys want to make it possible for us to play all together.
maybe this should be added to the op, to stop TLR people from firing insults that don´t do any good. i guess both companys heard us. let´s wait for the anouncement of the results and hope they manage to work something out that doesn´t start the shit-cannons again. i guess this thread could count as shit orbital strike by now

Hi peeps .
Long time no see for some of you (probably don't remember me and my inane and insane gameplay) . I read as much of the thread as I could stand in one sitting (about 20 pages) , and not sure what the standing is ...but.... It seems SOE don't have the ready cash to roll out the game across the globe (or at all?) and thus sold the rights in euro to prosomethingsomethingsomethingdarkside . In return pro... get the revenue from their server (micropayments etc ?) . Unless I missed something in the later pages , regardless of any SOE post of "We'll see what we can do" , I would say this is cast in stone .... corporate cash > players slow dripping cash payments . I have a questions that if someone could clarify for me : Has the transfer of accounts from SOE to ProTVdarkside already occurred ? Am I right in that EQ2 client is free now ? If I then subscribe for one month (about £10) and create a USA server chara , I can then play EU and USA servers ? If the above is correct then £10 might be a reasonably cheap way of securing your future global access to PS2 . (I suspect that the EQ2 open access loophole is a result of the fact that SOE is unable to split your station pass between both corporations on technical grounds .) Again , if the above is true , And all euro vets who are aware of this , follow the open access eq2 plan , then a year or so down the line when the dust settles , Prodarkside may find that they have taken a big hit in revenue from PS2 that was not apparent when the deal was struck . This may break the agreement between the companies and lord knows what that would lead to . Much of the above is speculation on my part , and I hope that some may be able to shed light on it . |

First you're assuming that the experience would be similar to the current Planetside. We can't know for sure how it might work, we can look at past examples (and other games) sure, but it's not definitive. Second, is saying "impossible at an 'acceptable' level". That seems a mighty subjective statement, who defines "acceptable"? What was acceptable to me, playing FPS games with up to 150-160 ping, is not acceptable to someone who is used to sub 50 ping. So assuming everyone shares a common view of acceptable is a bad idea. Third, you seem to assume we're all part of a bandwagon that thinks this all about money grabbing. No, personally, I'm pissed because I potentially can't play with a community I've been with for 6+ years. As long as Prosieben do a good job I couldn't care less about their deal with SOE. But the biggest thing is that you shoot down people playing on each others servers due to performance, but then you're all in favour of an international server. I think you've quite clearly revealed your bias of fearing how "higher ping players" would affect you personally through such a hypocritical stance. Hate to break it to you, but there were Americans playing on Emerald with much higher pings than some of us from Europe, and I'm sure the same will happen again. |

If you have a bunch of high latency players from different countries, you need to use a different kind of netcode than PS1 or else you will have an unplayable mess. The better "prediction" method is interpolation, which just delays things instead of trying to guess. But interpolation is inherently more laggy than extrapolation so you need to compensate for that lag (if anything, an argument against international players). And because of the scale of the game, the servers are going to need a LOT more processing power or else you're going to experience tons of latency. Yes, SOE will run the servers. But will they also manage the characters on that server, or is that something account-related that Prosieben will handle? Plus all of the other responsibilities they would have to split. |
