X: Appears to be a 3. It is not closed on the left side.
Y: This is far more similar in appearance to the seven, than the two. Notice how it doesn't have the bottom tail.
Z: Hard to say for sure, but I'm leaning towards an 8. It seems to have a slight pinch in the middle.

Ah... reading blurry, pixelated numbers.

It's like trying to identify ink blots.

I like the concept of it being 12-07-2011 (slashes through 0's, bottom of Y being blurred out and lost on zoom in.) It might be a harmless and self-imposed let down, but it beats waiting without a date to look forward to at all!

But no, you know what I think? I think we need a second opinion:

A.D.(wth? I.D. maybe?) 1257-2211 is what I get from there, and I have no reason to believe the numbers randomize from weapon to weapon, or from side to side even. Could also be A.D./I.D. 1253-2211. But comparing the two images, the only real difference from either side is that the numbers are on a sort of plate/sticker in the linked image, where as the OP's image they are not. Also, the OP's image the lettering is U.I.

I would actually say that X is indeed a 0, as is Z. Y does look more like a 2, but the bottom ride is small, but does come out with some sharpening.

I believe the date to be 7th December 2011 but this could have been to do with the original graphics update.

Now, just t make sure that these numbers have in-fact been added by the artist i took the time to enhance the trailer footage of the same weapon found in this artwork: http://www.planetside-universe.com/m...hp?img_id=1622

Now using the "Uncrop" function i managed to see that there is no numbers on the gun in game meaning it was deliberately put there!



Now i know you can see a yellow blob but this is a different colour to the text in the artwork making the artwork more likely deliberate.

Damn I need more news about news about news about the beta. BTW This was a troll; but I hope we get to play something soon.

But you're looking at the OTHER side of the weapon at a lower MIP level ^^

Even if you check the original screenshot, and look at the same weapon in the other guy's hand, it does not seem to have a serial number imprinted on it.

In any case, I'm going to get a big cherry pie to celebrate the occasion, and on the 7th if it turns out they don't drop any new info or announce the beta, I'll still have a delicious cherry pie to enjoy.
