I hope someone from SOE does comment on here but I doubt they will for legal reasons.
the one article only mentioned the a new chef security officer was being hired in, so either they are adding or they fired the old guy. it wasnt clear, but so far nobody as said anything about job loss other then that one thing.

C'mon. Sony has long done the bare minimum and now it looks like that's biting them. The way they're bleeding cash right now I wouldn't be overly surprised if ultimately this kills PS:N, although I hope I'm wrong. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them shift whatever resources they have to the new Everquest since that's their prize property.

No offence but can you add some substance or evidence to support that statement?

I don’t mean to be an @rse its just none of us know what was or was not done unless we work for that company. Normally no one goes out of their way to get hacked and very rarely if it was a coordinated attack does it fall into the category of negligence. Complacency is more common when you think your complying with security best practice.

The top and bottom is in most cases if someone has the resources and the incentive they will find a way.

Re: SOE Services Offline

PC gaming is totally dead due to the up rise in console gaming, shitty devs with negligence towards games and the over abundance of hackers.

There's still a few good companies out there who truly care about their games and make efforts to thwart hacking. However, there's not enough to truly make a difference or compete with console gaming.

Consoles are a lot more affordable than computers, a good one anyways. And a lot more accessible. You can go to any electronic or department store and pick up a console for a few hundred bucks. Where as with a computer you'll likely need to order one online or buy your own parts and custom build it yourself. People are getting increasingly more retarded in the future so it's obvious that PC gaming is taking a turn for the worse.

I'm not going to start a console vs PC war debate on here, even though I'm sure most of you will agree. I do still however believe, scratch that, know that PC gaming vastly superior, at least from an efficiency point of view. I'd state my reasons, but I think it's fairly obvious.

The only advantage that console gaming really has over PC gaming is that it appeals to much more casual people. Which just so happens to be the majority of people.

So basically PC gaming is fucked because the majority of people are morons and they look for the easiest avenue in order to get involved in something.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if in the near future they just completely did away with PC gaming. Everyone will have consoles in the future and we'll only use our PCs for buying shit online. Actually, they already have that for consoles.

ACTUALLY, they'll do away with consoles and PCs altogether. Everything will just be done on your phone. Which will be microscoptic and implanted into your brain at birth by the government in an effort to control our thoughts, secretly however the government is controlled by Lizard People who use our bodies for fuel and keep us in a comatose state. We'll all be entirely controlled and manipulated in a simulated world unaware that we're actually enslaved by these Lizard People.

This starting to kind of sound like a movie I was once saw.....I think it was called "The Lion King".

The end.

Saying PC gaming is dying off is like saying that Pentagon will no longer be placing orders for M16s. Bullshit. We could be the only country on the planet, and we'll still be making guns and buying them just so we could shoot each other, for lack of a better reason.

Just the other night, I had some avid console gamers over at my place. They own a PS3 and they were here to play BFBC2 since their PS3 wasn't worth shit right now. They were blown away by the level of detail and graphics - and isn't PS3 supposed to be the console with incredible visual detail?

PC gaming will die off when humans stop developing ever more powerful computers - i.e. when the internet's run out of porn.

This..

Sorry to say, but SOE got exactly what it deserves. Its been well known that they like to hire in very talented people.. then screw em after they delivered their golden egg and cut as many corners as possible for profit.

Remember folks Planetside was created by VERANT Interactive, then Sony came into the picture and look what happened to games since then under their watch. Planetside was going strong, then the original designers "left" and was kinda kicked around the house a little bit till someone that fit within SOE's salary threshhold really cared for it.

SWG.. don't get me started.

EQ.. the most classic was releasing expansions where folks got to parts of the content that were literally empty gray worlds because they were not even FINISHED yet after it was sealed, put on shelves and purchased.

Don't take my word for it... do some google searches.

Sephirius makes the points I would make. I don't know what their network security was like. I only know how the company treats the other pieces of their business and it's more than likely to carry over into the parts that aren't public.

You can say that if people have the resources they can find a way, but if somebody is looking for credit card information they'd be a WHOLE LOT better off trying to hit Blizzard. The thing is, that's a company with pretty amazing reputation in the public area which makes you think they probably do a better job behind the scenes as well.

I looked up Verant Interactive and 989 studios and found that -
In April 1998, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) was formed by merging parts of Sony Online Ventures with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Within a matter of months after this change, Sony Interactive Studios America was renamed 989 Studios.
Towards the end of 1998, 989 Studios shifted its strategy to making PlayStation console games only. The company's computer game/online development branch spun off, initially calling itself RedEye Interactive and then soon after Verant Interactive

So they've always been Sony and not some outside brand studio that was snapped up by a larger one.

@ Madcow

Again no offense but the information posted by Sephirius is not accurate and your post is subjective containing no more solid information than the original post. I really don’t care what your views are on Sony or if you have an axe to grind or not. I just think other threads would be better for this type of speculation.
