Do they have any idea what the difference is? How many games have they played where they DID enter the vehicle through an animation?

Seeing 100 people enter a vehicle at the command of an outfit leader for one of those movies does give you goose bumps. The animation literally connects the infantry experience to the vehicle experience as being part of something bigger. It feels more real, more important, more meaningful.

Having constraints like specific boarding points make for a more realistic experience, where you forget you are in a game. While when I see a loopzook video about a Battlefield game and people jumping into flying vehicles by touching their exhausts or sides, I feel immediately reminded and disappointed that this is just a game.

Look at PS outfit videos, how many videos have you seen that started with an outfit all moving into their vehicles at once, as a unit, as if they were part of some highly disciplined army?

It definitely adds to immersion.

And yes, as mentioned before, it has a positive effect on gameplay itself when switching between infantry and vehicle types (getting a second life bonus type thing) by creating a delay and warm up time.

Some games have this animation delay as well when switching between different vehicle seats within the vehicle.
QFT, well said, bravo

Except they aren't. These animations are the icing on the cake that you say you like to avoid. The cake itself is exactly what the video featured.

They didn't glue anything together. Just made some extra fluff. And the devs have said that they would rather work on the cake then the fluff. I agree with this.

From what I recall (if memory serves me correct), when new members to the animation team were allowed into the PS1 team, the first thing they were to do was make a vehicle entry animation to show of their abilities in a playful, yet useful fashion.

It's not just functional but also seems like a good excercise as well to me. And doesn't have to take that much time for an animator really.

Did you actually watch the video? It OPENED with two animations.

I thought that were were addressing vehicle exit/entry. But if you want to count the implant terminal add a whole 5 more seconds to that. For a total of 6% of the most popular Planetside video on the internet.

So why don't you provide numbers on why your precious entry/exit animations are so important, instead of acting like a dick?

Numbers? I don't need to provide any numbers, you plank... The want for animations has been explained in this thread several times already.

The want of 10 people in the ass of a forum board. You want devs to spend their time and money on that?

Yeah... Because the ten people in this thread who have made clear their desire to see the feature return are the only people who could possibly feel that way. That makes sense. Solid argument...

I want the devs to ship a sequel that retains the charm of its predecessor. These features do matter to a lot of people, despite your assumption that the majority must share your views on the matter.

I'm not assuming that they do, I'm just justifying a decision made by the developers. You're the one making the assumption that many others share your opinion. So you have to prove that. I at least made an attempt to disprove it.

The developers thought that spending time on animations for beta would put it too far back. If you want to tell them different then you're going to have to show that your opinion is a popular opinion with evidence and numbers.

We're a very small community, and mostly PS1 fans. The devs shouldn't base any decision solely on our wants and needs. We're not representative of the fanbase they're trying to capture.

While my take on supporting the devs perspective with numbers was a little iffy, I don't think a poll would be the correct way either.

"Would you like a $1000 for free? A) Yes, I like things, B)No, I like everyone being poor including myself C) Neutral".

And most of the opinions in that thread boiled down to "I would like them, but it wont kill the game if they aren't in". Not exactly an opinion worth spending money on.

That depends on your perspective, to me the animations would be in the cake group. Icing would be stuff like headshots. Man this is making me hungry.

Well what about from the average PS1 players perspective? How much time do they get in and out of vehicles compared to shooting other players?

I think that you used a poor analogy, if you look at the referenced poll it is basically asking a yes or no question based on the PS1 community affinity for animations:

Do you like animations?
Yes 215
No 11

Isn't that what we are discussing here? Whether animations are important to a playerbase that plans on playing PS2? I would think so, and the answer is an obvious yes.
