I must be missing something. What didn't she do that they wanted her to? Also, Waterson is TR, so what about that story shows the NC to be corrupt?

Noone is perfect, but anyone who isn't a mouth-breathing retard can see NC are on a higher moral ground than TR or VS.

Not only corrupt, but are willing to have young girls brutalized if people don't do what they want.
NC doesn't exactly have a moral high ground when they are being financed by big business looking for freedom from taxes.
The Vanu don't exactly have a moral high ground either, but are only really fighting because they are being forced to. If they had the choice they'd just continue their experimentation with the vanu technology and just let NC and TR have at it.

We're talking about the TR.

Sure they have, thats how they get the popular support in the beginning.
And then when they have power, they start to protect people against themselves.

Freedom from taxes? Oh my god, what fucking assholes! That's it, I'm changing my faction.

Now, do I want to be part of a brutal power-grabbing regime who attacks it's defenseless civillians in the name of "peace" () or a lunatic cult that wouldn't be so bad if they would just spend a little more time figuring Vanu tech out before declaring them gods and forcing everyone to either assimilate or die. I'm not sure, I just....HEY WAIT A MINUTE!

Also, Vanu shot first.

And what exactly is there to lose? As if the TR weren't ALREADY "protecting" the people against themselves (through violence and propaganda of course)?

You're kidding right?

Nearly all of them have piggy-backed on revolution movements.

"Their backstory" refers to NC in the first two quotes, so I'm not sure why it got switched to TR in the third.

Some corruption certainly wouldn't hurt NC. They need some shadiness to keep them interesting.

That New Conglomerate is light years away and decades long since dead. The original NC and their intent basically died the moment the wormhole shut early and threw everything into catastrophic survival mode.

Much like the TR on earth is relatively more decent than the one on auraxis, the NC has changed from desiring free market by exploiting whatever technology Tom found, to freedom from the increasingly tyrannic terran republic.
The situation they are in simply doesn't support the misconception of them still being financed from big business (When they are entirely cut off from earth and have been for years) and simply wanting free market (When people are living under an iron fist with enforced curfew).

The Vanu don't exactly have a moral high ground either, but are only really fighting because they are being forced to. If they had the choice they'd just continue their experimentation with the vanu technology and just let NC and TR have at it.
True, but Vanu has always been sneering down their noses at the other factions, and by extension, the rest of the "lesser" human race. Just because they didn't intend to get into the war doesn't mean they haven't taken to it with wild zealotry and racial supremacy.

That could easily lie in their underhanded techniques (Guerrilla warfare initially, probably fight dirty using tactics TR wouldn't think of or VS wouldn't "lower themselves" to using) and some of their more unsavory allies (pirates and mercenaries).
While their overall goal is the most altruistic, I imagine individuals within the organization could end giving it sinister elements..

You missed the context, we were discussing tyrants in general.

The NC are just trying to avoid being oppressed by the TR or turned into alien-hybrids by the Vanu.
Loss of freedom or loss of humanity? The NC choose option C, "None of the above".

I'm not. A tyrant who goes on to rule with an iron fist was never fighting for the people's freedom in the first place. The NC haven't shown any indicators (as of yet) of being bad people, just shrewd business men and women. I would even go so far as to say NC are converse to the TR and VS and look bad from the outside, but are actually pretty good when you dig into whats going on.

Let's look at the events so far...

TR
-Part of a stable government on Earth that allowed some basic freedoms to it's people
-Brought by Connery on the voyage when the disaster struck
-Used blackmail and threats on innocent people to organize a coup
-Killed the TR president (and a TON of innocent people) in order to wrest power and initiate a violent crackdown on all civillians
-Spread propaganda blaming the NC for the deaths

VS
-Scientists and researches brought along with the voyage who discovered alien tech
-Start researching Vanu tech as a way to inprove humanity
-Start seeing Vanu as gods and become paranoid that the TR or NC may take or destroy Vanu tech
-Start killing people unprovoked

NC
-A conglomerate of corporations on earth who has a stated desire to allow people the freedoms of thought, speech, etc
-Funded Connery's mission through the wormhole and provided him with hired laborers and mercenaries, and a few execs to keep an eye on things
-After the wormhole collapse, food starts to go short and unrest starts to occur among people
-TR initiate their attack and crackdown, NC is left holding the bag
-laborers and mercenaries form a faction to stop martial law and take back what rights they deserve as citizens

NOWHERE (so far, at least) is ther any indication that the NC are evil. In fact, all indications point them to being better for civil liberty than the TR.

So, we're saying on a long enough time line, someone at some point will be a tyrant.

Yes, yes you're probably right.

EDIT: and it would take a faction like the New Conglomerate to stop it.

Therefore the free-minded find themselves among the NC.
