It'd also likely cost a few quid in Station/ProSabien Cash to buy an Outfit-owned base. Not sure how it would work, in an open (not instanced) continent. The biggest international outfit would just zerg the smaller ones bases when the defenders logged out to catch some zeds.

I see us battle over continents more a case of calling in deployable structures. turrets, towers, grantries. Collections of these may form 'bases'. There may be some very big modules that would be the equivalent of bio-lab / amp station etc. It wouldn't need to be destroyable. If it was it wouldn't always need to be vulnerable. Buildings in SWG that could be captured and destroyed were only vulnerable at certain times. If we have worlds and warpgates we aren't even pushing the game lore to explain away why bases are only vulnerable for several hours at a set time. It could be done well. Not that PS will need it. |

I really think this may be their substitute for a VR training area (like in PS1). Basically a player/outfit base on its own continent with faction warp gates to the main continents, would serve this purpose. Even better for SOE if they charge for this rather than add it in the game for free.
Outfits would be able to practice, train, and use as staging area before heading out to battle/warp gate. I don't think it would be something that others will be able to attack per say. This is my best guess.

I'm guessing they will serve the same purpose that as the sanctuary from ps1 as in shooting ranges, vehicle testing, and jump point between contients. Can anyone even tell me if they have address intercontiental travel? Cuase I've heard nothing on it.

All SOE has to do is have a continent available for a limited amount of time before they reset. Like the continents could be active for like a week or two and then when the continent "runs out of resources" the continent would close and a new one would become available.
That would mean bases could be implemented without having to be destructable. Every couple of weeks people would have the chance to improve on their designs. |

Spending money on a destructible base that can be hacked/blown up as soon as everybody in your outfit goes to bed....?
That can't be what SOE has in mind. Unless of course you can plop them back down again somewhere else. Last edited by Rivenshield; 2012-07-27 at 01:47 PM. |

As long as these bases can be captured, I'm all for it.
I wonder, though, if these bases will substitute/compliment that idea about giant ships they talked about awhile back. I'd rather have a giant ship than a static base, if it came down to one or the other. |

Imagine a continent like Cyssor - completely void of all bases, facilities, outposts.
Resources on every hex - LOADS of resouces. Rivers and streams running through the land, trees and hills and the snowcapped form of Mount Cyssor standing majestically in the middle. Then the armies roll through the warpgates. One each on a different side of the continent. The VS come through first and call down a Watch Tower deployable, similar to the one we saw in the first PS2 trailer so many months ago. There's your "hard" spawn point. Around this tower Engineers start calling down or deploying other structures - vehicle pad, walls, turrets, gates, everything. Not a base as big as a PS2 facility, obviously, but more of a stronger, heartier, makeshift forward operations base. Then you call down the Extractor equipment. This extractor starts harvesting resources for your faction and will continue to do so for that hex. Rinse and repeat for the other two empires, all three trying to control as much of the territory as possible. The operations bases are shattered one after another by enemy armor columns and bombing runs, all outfits and squads trying to take control of this resource-rich environment. One outfit decides to be especially courageous and calls down an Oil Rig to harvest the precious off-shore resources (this part is mostly a pipe dream compared to the rest). Enemy outfits get intel on it, deploy naval bases on the shoreline, and form a navy to go take out the Oil Rig and deploy one of their own. It's actually a lot like EVE Online 0.0 space. I think it can be done - as other posters in this thread have said, don't think of an outfit "owning" a real facility. I think of it more as an ad-hoc camp. Yeah, the players built it and the players own it - until someone blows it up, then they do it again. Actual home bases would be interesting to see but I think what I've described above is a prettier picture.

This could be amazing for them to make money. Hell I'd easily drop 50€ on stuff for my house if others can come visit.
Damn... think about the possibilities! Outfits could build their own bases where they could talk about strategies or even practise them if they buy enough real estate! |
