I'm quite jealous, I need to stop dumping thousands of $$$ into my truck.. damn 35'' tires cost $1,650!

I spent 1200€ (!= 1200$) on a new gamer config, mostly because I wanted to run this game, so it'd better be good!

Fairly certain my laptop will be able to run Planetside 2 on high/medium settings, so long as I can keep it cool...But I do have $60 stashed away for buying SC for when PS2 comes out, will probably be catching the SC specials whenever I notice them.

$1400 on my new rig and $20 on SC... but on the July 4th sale so it was really $40.

I was getting a new comp built anyways so unless I want cosmetic stuff it won't cost me anything.

I don't think any of the cosmetic stuff looks good either, but i want to support the game. The fact they are making a game exclusivity for the PC means they take my money.

Yeah, I'll wait and see how I like the game and also if there is any good cosmetics but if it is a well done game I will drop some cash.

I've needed a new machine for years. My desktop was better than this laptop, but I gave the desktop to my bro because he was computerless. And I got this laptop a few years ago.

So up to $1500 on a new machine... gonna make sure it has room to scale up.

Beyond that, I'll buy SC when PS2 is ready for it.

every few years I up something on my comp.

I try to keep a lookout for good combo deals. you can save HUNDREDS of dollars by doing this.

most expensive thing is always a video card which i usually drop around the 200 dollar mark. but like i said they normally last me several years.

Ill find out in beta if I need to upgrade my pc for ps2... im pretty confident what I have now will be able to run it pretty well though. I play BF3 on highest settings and it runs perfectly. I could probably use double the ram I currently have though.

currently:
AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 ghz
4 gigs of shitty RAM (think its 1600 or 1800)
Radeon HD 5800 series
and a regular 1 TB HD @ 7200

all games run perfect and I expect ps2 wont be much different.

I hardly ever spend over 400 dollars when upgrading my computer. And when I do its pretty much a completely new comp which would last another several years playing games at highest settings.

If you are upgrading because you need to now for any number of reasons, fine.

If you are specifically upgrading for PS2, why would you not wait a few months? The game isn't even in closed beta yet, and depending on how the beta goes, the release could be pushed to the beginning of 2013. If you wait for a release date you can get the same parts cheaper, or better parts for the same price.

Hi,

I would recommend ordering parts and putting it together yourself. Its seriously easy to do (its a ten piece jigsaw puzzle). Also, in the world of youtube you can watch a video on how to do it. You can order the parts from newegg (usa), or scan.co.uk, or overclockers.

If you're only gaming (ie. no hardcore video editing or CAD etc.) you can't go wrong with any of these:

CPU: Any unlockable "K" series intel i5 processor (this means you can clock it, which is really recommended. Its not hard to do, most motherboards come with software to help if BIOS scares you!!! AMD are also an option (I am a bit of a fan boy) but I have to say they are not really as viable in the present market - ignore the cores - an i5 k series is superior on a $ basis to anything.

GPU: Depends on your budget, but for £150 you can get a ATI 6950 (which may unlock to a 70) 2 GB version which seems a pretty good deal - bang for buck. Or go all out all the way up to a $1000 690 GTX. Remember for only gaming this is where your money should be sunk. Spending $1000 on a CPU and $100 on a GPU won't give as many FPS as vice versa.

RAM: Just go with 8GB. You only need 16GB + for hard core video editing etc.

HD: Your choice, but if you have the money go for a SSD as well as a mechanical, a Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB is only £100 now. I have to say, I couldn't go back to a mechanical now... An SSD just makes loading times quicker (my PC boots in seconds), but for a new build I'd budget it in. Although, there are still two schools on this.

Motherboard: This depends on you're CPU. Find out its socket and buy depending. Think about what you need - ie, how many graphics cards will you need and whether they're SLI (nVidia) or Cross Fire (AMD - ATI) if you have more than one. How many SATA 3 connections do you want etc... This can be the most confusing, but most modern boards - with modern sockets should have all the bases covered. For under £100 you can get some really mega boards now with crazy stuff as standard.

Basically, I just wanted to say don't be scared of building your own, its not difficult and its kind of a new hobby in of its self.

Also, when the big box of stuff arrives its the closest thing we adults get to Christmas.
