Seriously?

You are aware that you don't actually have to use this thing aren't you... I mean, its a graphic.... You'll activate it by clicking your mouse (or whatever) in the same way you activate your gun, get in your vehicle, respawn and everything else.

Some people have been smoking too much Auraxian space-weed.

I think the design is great. There is a reason that game controllers are designed like they are. To use that as a stepping stone for future tech is not a stretch to me.

My only concern is that i could never get those damn sequences right. left, right, circle, square, square, damn! BOOM!

This sort of over analysis is really completely pointless, i'm sure the devs have put less thought into it than were discussing... but anyway I'll bite. Please mind that my comments are about the logical button layout of the current design, why the second row of buttons arn't 'pointless' as the initial poster described. Its not about production/resources required, lets stick to the original point.

It's not just stretching your fingers. Buttons will be placed in order of priority use from left to right if your right handed and right to left if your left handed (because who wants to be using their pinky to push a button often, especially through gloves?). This could be fixed as you said by being able to flip the buttons (one row) or having two designs (L & R).. Neither of which the devs have gone for !

see above.

From a production stand point that would make perfect, sense. But that's not what the devs have gone for, I'm simply stating there are perfectly logical reasons for the buttons to be laid out this way. Its not optimum design, but not without point.

Me too, hence why your explanation about mobiles, keyboard, GPS units and remote controls as some sort of evidence of bad layout for this device grated.

Did I miss something where this thing is going to be created in real life?

Last I checked this was an object in a virtual world.

Yes, but we have to make sure that our virtual fingers will virtually press those virtual buttons correctly, or we won't be able to virtually deploy virtual manned turrets.

And then, you'd find yourself in some virtual shit.

(Or maybe not, which would mean some people might just be overreacting, and not even virtually)

And yet, this design is anything but conducive to "suspending disbelief" (I'm still assuming it's a troll).

Yeah , but as you guys talked about in the AGN its all about depth and immersion. If you don't believe an item like that would work in real life then its going to be hard to find the game immersive !
