I wish I had room (and money) for a second monitor, but my desk is tiny.

I said yes and no...

And I honestly don't care, it's not a big issue since the chat box likely has a transparency mode and I don't think it's going to clog the screen much at all.

It's about more than the chat box though. Vivox channel membership and management, the map, friends list, session stats, low priority chat channels, etc. There's a ton of stuff that could be two clicks away on a single monitor but the idea of the second monitor is that you won't need to bring it up, it'll already be there at a glance..

I should note for consistency and clarity of my position that this is a large factor to why I am a stalwart supporter of a 2nd-screen UI but much more leery of widened FOV Eyefinity/Surround support. 2-screen systems are much easier to throw together on a limited budget or from hand-me-down monitors and the like. Most modern cards will support two screens out of the box, and 2-screen setups don't get fussy about resolutions or model matching the way Eyefinity/Surround tend to require.

Thus, when my metric is "what is commonplace, or within a reasonable expenditure for a gamer to acquire?", 2-monitors falls much more comfortably into that test than the graphics card integrated setups.

I'm in favor of both the multi monitor support and eyefinity support, after all I have my own small command center at home.

I too have a second monitor and would definitely take advantage of this if it were a feature in the game. I've only played two games, I think, that allowed this - Shores of Hazeron, and Aurora.

Take the game of your choice and start removing HUD items.
The game starts looking better and better.
Immersion raising and raising.

Having the option to move HUD items over to a 2nd monitor would be an
absolutely awesome feature.

Bumping this thread with the new information from Higby via the latest AGN interview. Higby stated that having the radar scaled up and moved to another monitor may not be possible, but he did later add that "chat boxes could be moved around". With that in mind, if the HUD elements are not constrained to the center monitor, there will be a chance that the chat box clutter can be moved to the side monitors. This probably means 3 monitors will be needed.

If it were possible, it'd be pretty sweet.

Sir I am envious of your setup.

Cool, I'm about to shut down my computer and install this second GTx 570 that's been sitting on my desk for the last three weeks.

Like I've said earlier in this thread, moving secondary reference UI elements off the main monitor would be awesome and the basic setup of a pc enthusiast is moving towards multiple monitors.

The innovators at CCP recognized this a couple years ago.

I would actually consider buying a second monitor just to be able to do this

I am happy, but concerned. The ability to do this is cool, but the hardware (gpu) required to run 3 monitors will be heavy. The optimal situation for a much cheaper setup is that the second monitor does not have to render the game world, just the chat/map/squad stuff. HOWEVER...with the stand alone app that they are working on this may be a moot point. I guess one feature to campaign for in the app is squad information (health/shield/armor) like the squad/platoon bar in PS1.

It would be so awesome to put a tactical map to the second monitor!
