I want them if they are willing to give it a try. Really, F2P should be enough, at least once the game has been out for a few months and has generated some great community content. If they still don't want to try it, yeah, fuck em.

If they are your friends, get new friends

Cyber warfare is where it's at.

First discovered in September 2011, but bearing code indicating it was created in 2007, Duqu is closely related to the Stuxnet worm, which in the summer of 2010 infected and crippled Iran's Natanz nuclear-fuel processing facility.

The thing about PS is you get modern style stuff with NC, near future with TR, and futuristic with VS. So you get a bit of each to play with and against. Aside from the goofy jetpack crap, its not that futuristic other than bases. Aircraft may hover but they play just like helicopters, and tanks are tanks and same with other vehicles. Really nothin that advanced. NC and TR still use bullets and tank shells, its only vs who seem to go the more futuristic route.

Plus, modern shooters are boring, sorry but there just is so little variety in em and the options for future additions are limited and dull. I'll pass on playin an MMO of that boring stuff.

I hear scifi is pretty unpopular when it comes to shooters, just look at halo...oh wait.

If these retards, want realistic gunplay, join the fucking Marines or atleast play arma, a game not bound by realism and lore constraints will always be better than those that are, ITS PROBABLY WHY THEY LIKE BATTLEFIELD SO MUCH.

They've done the right thing, kept it simple and contemporary enough in premise for us to identify with and to 'get into' without thinking too much about what stuff is and why we are doing it. Lets face it the setting is not at all what we would really be doing in that situation or with that technology. Its just enough to get the sides in order, give them a theme and let em have at it for some good times.

While I think the devs are doing a good job of updating the "Planetside experience" to something that modern-day shooter fans can jump right into, I don't think anyone should downplay the futuristic theme.

Modern war shooters are a dime a dozen, and PS2 is an oasis of fresh, original gameplay in the vast swamp of similar mutliplayer shooters the current generation has pushed forth.

I dont understand how people find that entertaining, i remember playing BFBC2 and watching people scramble for the UAV and even betraying eachother for it. Fun "Modern/Realistic" stuff, eh?

TLDR: "We don't want them."
Exactly "modern combat" isn't anything like any video game... ARMA is the closest you can get.

They want 1/3 of ground forces to be autonomous by 2016.

EDIT: Reading this EA forum makes me want to puke... It's almost worst than the CoD community.. What happened to BF.

DICE changed Battlefield to be focused on immersion, which to them means blurring from every possible source and less nimble vehicle and infantry movement, etc and not only that, closer to CoD pacing. That's what happened.

I mean the players.(community)

This Velkrin's guys post are just so ridiculous. I've never seen so much ignorance towards other games.

I recall the only good one having a Health bar.

Reach and ODST also had health.

ODST is my favorite Halo game(story wise). Orbital Shock Drop Troopers are sooo bad-ass and come on most of the cast of serenity was given a voice roll as well as a the cyclone girl from BSG.

I could only stand to read a page or two, but a lot of people should chill out. Remember chill pills? Those where awesome, more people should take them.

I think this was a touchy subject to start Stardouser, it's also such a complicated thing to discuss. Because you're talking about a "theme" or otherwise overall feel of the game which covers such a broad list of things. You mention some BF players turning away from the futuristic theme, how can you not expect people here to suggest that they should still try it, or be upset and say we don't need them anyway because they've all ready dismissed our beloved game.

But it's also complicated because this game IS GOING TO BE FUTURISTIC. But I'm sure you've seen a lot of the same photos and videos I've seen and know what the NC and TR's themes are, you know the VS use "lazers", you know the bases are futuristic. If you're asking for certain things to be downplayed because it's too futuristic then you're gonna have to be more specific because there's all ready huge lists of future stuff (lazers, hovering, shields, etc) and our generation things (bullets, wheels, explosvies, buildings,). Fine tuning how much is in each list is I guess what will satisfy them, but again

Planetside 2 is set in a futuristic setting

I think you are misunderstanding this, you weren't the first and probably still not the last to do so. Downplay does not in any way, shape, or form, mean changing the game. This was aimed at the community, not the devs, for the purpose of finding ways to help people who don't like future theme get past that.

WRONG!

I have played every Halo released to date, and was a very active member of the Bungie/Halo forums.

Halo 2 AND Halo 3 both had Health bars, actually. They were just hidden, offscreen. Ever play Halo and lose all your shields, yet you can still take a small amount of punishment even after they're gone? (excluding headshots). Its because there IS health, they just removed it from the HUD and it recharges very, very slowly.

They re-added the health HUD item to Reach because players felt that the recharging HP and lack of information on their current HP level was lame and ironically for Halo, too mainstream. So they re-added the Medkit and the HP bar to change the dynamics of multiplayer. For the better. IMO.
