Great, my name has been taken in a 7 minute window...

For all those who waited for an email, telling them about when and where to register their name - HA HA HA, SOE ****** you, most names which are interesting enough to reserve them in advance will most likely be taken as i type this.

Any kind of announcement like "Gentlemen, start your engines, reservation will open AT...." would have been appreciated.

No one can get their name. Seems it's a Database error.

It worked for a while, about 7min after Smedley tweeted about the reservation being open.
"Shenyen" was taken, so i was able to sucessfully (hooray *clap* *clap*) register my fallback name - "Neyesh".

If that name is now really mine - i have no idea, when i return to planetside2.com/reserve-name - there's still a prompt to enter a character name.

If it had been coded better, the page should instead display "You have already chosen a character name" or something like that, grmpf.


EDIT: Well, they are working on it and Smedley apologizes, that those not using Twitter were at a disadvantage - So i'd guess that saying they will AGAIN reset the database seems like a safe bet.

With all due respect to the dev team, this is without doubt a f***** up farce that does not instill confidence in the launch or customer services.

All this for something as simple as adding a name to a database?

What irks me is the thought of anyone who bought Alpha Squad for the name reservation service, who may rightly believe they've reserved their name at this point, only to come back later and find themselves screwed over.

As far as I'm concerned name reservation for Alpha Squad was a bonus they added at SOE Live.

The only people chomping at the bit to get their names reserved are fully aware of everything that is going on. Anyone who bought it that isn't a vet or as invested as most of us are never even know the form opened.

Either way this was a pretty epic failure. As long as they get it working by the 20th they are good.. but let's hope the form WORKS on Wednesday. Also, I doubt it's as simple as adding a name in a db.
