The more modern example of that is "peace through strength" Ronald Reagan

"speak softly and carry a big stick" Teddy Roosevelt

if you can read this thank a teacher if you can read this in English think of a soldier

War is necessary for freedom is necessary that man rise up and topple their oppressors in order to enjoy the sweet nectar of liberty.

If I find time I'm going to lay this speech over that video

No problem with that. I'm sure lots of people have reasons for choosing their side besides ideology. In the end it's just a game with no actual real world ramifications and the NC needs targets too.

Really? someone is comparing Chaplin speech with Reagan? really? what is wrong with you people? Reagan was one of the worst presidents of the United States, and people that like freedom still defend him? what the fuck? god...

Go and read about Charles Chaplin before comparing him to such scum.

It's important not to get too wrapped up in the "war" part. It's unnecessary for someone to rise above others simply to rule over them, regardless of color or creed. While I DO think war is necessary sometimes, lets not glorify it. There's nothing glorious about war, death and destruction. "only the unloved hate: the unloved and the unnatural". Only those without the love of humanity can fight a real war without remorse for the loss of fellow men. That's what Chaplin is saying, and it fits the NC well enough, imo. Especially when you take the "fight" part of the speech literally.

Militarization, patriotism and war are strange things. They can be spun many ways by people who know much more than us and it's NEVER as squeaky clean or egregiously evil as some people think it is. I have a hard time trusting anything that comes from a politician, especially from a politician during the cold war.

PD: Great video, great movie.

Reagan gets a lot of bad rap for a lot of unsubstantiated stuff. He certainly wasn't as bad as some other presidents we've had. He was more of a personality president than anything, though. His biggest problem was that he liked to smile and shake hands a little too much, imo.

I agree it's not exactly a fair comparison, though.
