And another thing that Battlefield refugees wonder about...what's this "command" stuff I keep seeing here and there? Battlefield used to have a Commander until it was casualized out of the game.
planetside has no preset missions or quests or automated incentives to get you somewhere(when talking about how a battle is coordinated that is ),
every battleplan, all the tactics and descisions come from leaders. and a leader is a real person just like you sitting behind his pc somewhere.

ive seen some real badass leaders that would win wars if they were in the real military, and these guys just walk around the battlefield just like you so there is this "looking up to" effect ( ie. fighting alongside the leader of 400 people is a real morale booster )

edit: also note that leaders arent "picked" or "selected", they just step up to the plate when they are needed and earn a following by doing so. ( if they are any good that is )

Really, what is the plan, star?

We could create a kamikaze-thread, to let people spot the link.
Wait til we're actually playing the PS2 or the PS2 beta though , but yes...!

Does it actually have tools for leaders to issue orders to squads, or is it all verbal and typing to people "do this and go here"?

And if there are formal tools, who gets access to them and how? And never mind overall leaders, can squad leaders issue waypoints to their own squad?

Hey, Star.

You should read the PS2 wiki. It's a very very nice read for us un-informed people.

yes there were all kinds of tools in ps1 , leaders could draw battleplans on maps, have seperate chat channels for leaders of same rank, can call down orbital strikes, set waypoint ( yes for squads to )

well this has all not been confirmed for ps2 but you can be pretty sure it will have some variation on this

you got acces to this by actually leading troops ( command XP ) wich lvld your command rank wich got u more stuff
in ps2 this will be a skill tree, most likely a pretty big one wich gives u progression from leading a squad to leading hundreds of people

The only problem with Mordor for PS2 is that there is a small, though still significant, group of future theme haters. Even if a future themed game provides everything they want in an FPS they will ignore it.

cry, because you missed ps1!
how it was:
10 players formed a squad. the leader could set waypoints for all to see in the field and on the map. all members had the squads names and healthbars visible like in mmorpg grouping.
up to 3 squads could form a platoon, and one of the squadleaders would be platoonleader. all waypoints of all 3 leaders would show on the map and in the field as a skymarker.the squads were colorcoded like orange, yellow and blue and all members showed as colored numbers on every other members maps. so you could check the map to see who is where.

and the leaders were able to type custom text on all members maps and even draw tactical routes or dicks on the map ;-)

edit:megamols was faster ;-)

Yeeeeeah. That's right...

But come on. This game is like heaven for us. Why would they ignore it simply because of the theme? That's not true "tactital-shooter" spirit!

And it's f2p.

I play bf3 on Xbox, and I played bfbc2

First no one talks on mic, everyone's a lonewolf
It's pretty but I get bored after a hour
When I do play it all I play is rush or the new pack maps
Snipers are just shit
It's all urban fighting mainly
Most people just play engineer
It's started to turn into cod

Now call of duty was good but know its just glorifyed peace of shit with this new elite. And the game just looks outdated, mw2 was great 2 years ago but now it's just full of drugged up Chav's, school kids and bored mother fuckers

BFBC2 was good I enjoyed playing it nice classes, sniper was great big open maps reminded me off planetside

Rant over

also we got some complaints already, that 2 of our 3 factions don´t look future-themed enough.

let the haters play terran republic, and they might feel like only being 10 years in the future. but they will still encounter purple alienware on the battlefield.

Re: Greetings from Mordor(EA UK BF3 forums)

One thing a lot of Battlefield players hate is servers that make uncap rules where you can't attack the uncappable bases. That is, not only can they not be capped, but attacked, either.

Now, there is obviously no such thing as a 64 player PS server, so you don't have different rules for every area of the game, and that's great. That said, question: There are very very few bases in Planetside that are out of bounds to the enemy, right?

One thing I would love to do as a strategy would be to have a force attack a certain area with no intention of capturing it, but instead, with the idea of causing as many enemies as possible to spawn there and defend it, leaving other areas undefended and capturable.

A question then, on that strategy: How does the enemy know if a base that currently has no players at it, is being attacked? Does the game notify people?

in ps1 the bases flashed on the map ( and i think there was a chat update to ) at that point the commanders would dispatch people there, if needed

and every faction gets 1 base on each continent that is uncapturable ( wich is a fiercly debated issue )

edit: that would leave us with like 9 more bases to capture( and bases have several capture points in them) + even more outposts.
and this would be 1 continent, and there will be 3 continents at launch
