The reason they had us fill out the hardware survey was so that they can get a good sample of a diverse set of hardware configurations to test the game on before they open the floodgates of closed beta. And to test server capacity. They need non-SOE players for both. But realistically only a single server full.
I don't recall them saying the technical test would be in-house only. They simply don't have the resources on hand (both hardward and human) to test what they want to. |

I think you may be over-estimating the stability of the build. The more important thing is that by their own unspecific schedule they'll have closed beta after finished tech-testing (may take more than one weekend btw, pending what if any problems show up), and start inviting PS1 players and such.

I thought Kraw was referencing people getting into the Systems Testing as if they were getting into Beta.
CBT wont start until after the Devs have gotten to do enough Systems Tests. This being July 4th holiday week in the states it's super unlikely that they'll be doing it this week. I also doubt that Systems testing will begin as early as this weekend, but that is more because I want the whole Dev team to have the holidays off so they can come back for the crunch and get the Systems Testing started on the 9th or 10th. |

The reason we did the survey is just for them to play with a few systems to try it out and see what works and what doesnt so they can deicide after a few tests what the requirements will be to play ps2. after that they let people in to test the server stability and maybe find a few bugs (Closed beta) during closed beta they will increase player amounts (i assume they use downtimes a week to test things).the closed beta can take awhile befor they enter open beta. |

Why are people rushing so much?
If you think about it, they added 30 days to PS1 accounts, with the message, "Players can hone their skills once more," so I doubt they'll be much activity on any beta before most of those 30 days expire. Put 14 days on the tech testing front and you get start to get towards the back end of July, when the PS1 free time will be beginning to run down. That's when I see the beginning of a Closed Beta phase. I got my CB prio access code, I can wait. |
