Honestly, I am really tired of this cryfest...
It was always announced, more than month ago and certainly more than 5 distinct times (probably more like 10), that the beta would follow a certain order. And to the people who feel that they have been cheated by not getting in day 1, this is a real beta test; if you want to test stuff, you don't bring in everyone at the same time (the time it takes to set up everything for so many people could have been used as testing), and if you are making a sequel, you want people who know their stuff to see, as early as possible, if your product is a truly a sequel and not just another game with an old name on it. This doesn't mean you take everything they say, but for the whole experience, they are the only ones who more or less understand how PS should play as a total package, because there are no other games that are similar. Yes, PS2 isn't PS1.5:Look at dem Graphics, but, the fundamentals of the game are the same, and that is what you need to test at the start of a beta; all the rest, including the actual mechanics of the implementation, can be tested later. And honestly, most of the complaints about the game, and, even more, the gameplay, on both sides of the veteran label relate to things that are relatively quite minute, and that can be easily adjusted at any time during the beta; it therefore stands to reason that if, in 5 weeks, all the new blood think that something is off, than it will still be able to be fully tested and implemented. |

I read it as there would be waves of invites done over 2-3 weeks... not 100% vets. By the sounds of things twitter key holders will be given invites right before the open beta.
What sucks the most is that SOE has negatively divided the community with this decision. Anyway all will be forgiven if the game is good, but the money I was planning on spending on PS2 is going elsewhere. |

Through the vets access (and this first wave), there will be keys sprinkled in there. |

Personally, I got one of the twitter keys shortly after E3, and you know how I feel about this? Perfectly fine. I'm not offended, alienated, or frustrated. I'm not upset. I'm not raging at the devs or Smedley. 3 weeks, or even 4 weeks, is not that far away - Especially compared to the two years I've been signed up for Firefall's beta without getting invited to it (at this point I don't even remember why Firefall sounded good, and may not even bother with Firefall if I ever do get in).

As a "Priority" Key holder, I can understand some of the disappointment some of people feel. Unless I'm incorrect, in the very beginning they (SOE) hyped the Twitter and PC Gamer keys as entry into the beta first. It was only afterwards they unveiled their " 'Active' Veterans> Inactive Vets> Priority keys> Everyone else" structure. It feels like they pulled a fast one after they realized the power vets had over the game. I understand that vets offer a unique viewpoint, but so do the new players, and it feels like the new guys are being shafted. I know priority keys are being "sprinkled" into the first wave, but the word "sprinkled" sounds like an attempt to mollify the people who actually know the dictionary definition of the word priority.

Yes, the new guys are being shafted, welcome to old style beta. Most games (such as GW2) have "demos for pre-purchasing". This is truly what an old school beta was like, and back in the day most people were picked by who they knew, or their status in a previous game. Its actually quite refreshing to see SOE going back to the roots of the old ways and maybe, just MAYBE, there really is hope for the future of gaming, and not this casual "pet collecting" world people have created around us.

anyways to have a beta keys only means that at some point you are definatly getting into the closed beta, if you randomly sign up, mostl likely not. but the priority key means you HAVE PRIORITY IN JOINING UP, not that you are super uber hero and can get it asap. I actually don't mind that I only have a PC Gamer key. The vets have been here for years and deserve their first access, anybody who doesn't like it clearly is too impatient to see the rewards of this game.
It's not just a game where you can pick it up for a quick rush. Attacks take time, not 10 minutes. Shut up, wait your turn and be glad people are testing it now, so when we get we'll have a bit more of a polished game to enjoy. Besides, this beta is gonna run for months, not days. 2 to 3 weeks isn't gonna matter, when to be honest, I cannot see an open beta until close to the festive period.... |
