Your wording seems strange to me, since vets don't need keys. When should they show as "active"?

Aye, that's just how it always goes when people are invited into a beta. It's difficult to discuss topics regarding the game being tested without actually bringing in beta experience, which of course isn't allowed.
What I normally see is testers either effectively "leaving" forums or just avoiding game discussions like the plague

According to twitter tech test will remain as is, with a very slight chance of some more EU invites.
Beta will probably start "in a bit over a week" (said friday if i recall).

Basicly means there's little reason to update your survey, as it was just used for tech test.

I STILL don't understand the difference between the tech test and the beta. Every stress test I've ever been a part of has only taken one or two days.

The tech test isnt a stress test though. The tech test is about checking to see how an array of modern pc equipment handles the game. It was also about checking connection quality to their servers. It's a very limited scale and just testing for very specific things.

A stress test is usually an open thing, when the core game is basically ready to go and they need to push their server architecture to its limit to make sure it can handle what will be asked of it when the game goes live.

To my understanding they arnt so much testing THEIR tech, but testing how the game currently runs on different sort of systems.

This is not a stress test, as they have obviously way too little people to stress even my grandmoms computer

Tech Test is to make sure their hardware (and players hardware) can support the game and they can distribute it to thousands of players.

Optimizing an FPS where they plan to have 2000 players on a continent is a huge affair so I'm not surprised the tech test is longer.

I've never been in a tech test before. Do they have certain guidelines that the testers must follow such as making sure their system is up-to-date and clean of crap that will make it perform bad?

Not really.

They developed the game on clean, controlled systems. Now they need to test the stability of real-world systems complete with all the garbage, malware, and customization that typically go with them.

I hope the PS1 vets are forced to Register to PS2 beta. Otherwise, all the first test waves keys will go to old PS1 accounts, and the keys disappear to void.

Even better, the game would be filled with people that have purchased / traded the account for themselves. And everyone runs around "I have no idea what I'm doing".
