yeah but you also have to think the first one looks like its maybe in a desert where the other is kinda a grassy plan, and it could be the effect of this new 3d engine vs different PC's or settings

Interesting analysis of the pictures, they do look different but it's hard to say.

Possibility: same tower style, just rotated 180. Look at the top down image

The back and front are radically different.

We also could just be looking at an air tower vs a watch tower, no detailed outfit customization.

That isn't to say I don't hope that we will be able to customize tower. Would be quite cool. My main interest though in is where we'll be allowed to place them. I really hope we can place them closer than 400m or something. Heck, I'd love to stack them if I could. Make an Ubermech tower or place them close enough to create a fortified position beyond the norm. Then again if we're going to have outfit bases at some point (or orbital stations I don't know) I'd love to know the resource costs. It may wind up to be better to not buy any towers and just save for the bases. Though that's no fun in the short term.
And that gives me an idea for the Q&A thread.
