PS1 tried to update their game, it was called Core Combat and BFR's. But bittervets like you whined and moaned at them because they didn't fit in with your idea of fun. Bittervets killed PS1. Had to add another one to my original post: Empire loyalty.
Empire loyalty is a big deal, after PS1 release when servers started to merge empire loyalty went out the door and had a detrimental effect on immersion. People would see their empire was losing so they would switch to the winning side. |

Also, when you say "iron sights" I think what you mean to say is the "aim down sight" mechanic. Even when your rifle has a red dot scope, or a 4X scope, or a holographic sight, you still aim down sight when you're using a scope. With that said, ADS is industry standard now. I don't think anyone wants hipfiring(which is what we say you are doing if you are not ADSing) to be the dominant gameplay mechanic. Otherwise we would be regressing to Quake and Serious Sam. |

SOE killed PS1, not the players. In the aftermath SOE devs went extinct and SOE continued to charge a subscription for a game they no longer supported. Because the bittervets didn't want anymore support. They wanted the same game to stay the same. What do you expect a company to do when you tell it that it does shit work. |

Hipfiring and getting good accuracy and recoil control isn't realistic. It's amazing how people can ask for realism in one mechanic but not the next. I don't mean that you are doing this, I just mean that a lot of people are citing realism in many of their requests here. But sometimes realism concerns get abandoned.
While I can guarantee you that you will find support for vehicle animations throughout the gaming world, having hipfire only and some kind of "zoom" is not supported. PS1 is an awesome game to this day, even with the crappy expansions. But of course without it's immersion elements it wouldn't be in a class all its own. |
