Well I'm bored, so here's another *smaller* but tantalizing chapter
Chapter 16: Surprise! "Sir! The enemy has breached our defenses and has taken the secret documents!!" shouted an NC private. "WHAT?!!!" 50cent reached for his Magscatter and blew the private's head off, anger coursing through his veins. "DAMN YOU LANCE!!!!!!!!! DAMN YOU!" "Guard!!! Place this compound on red alert! FIND THOSE TERRANS!" The Terrans were already on their way out. Lance and his crew tore through the hallways, filling any soldier unfortunate enough to come across them with led. Their pace slowed as they reached another door, a 20 foot tall door. "Blow it up!" Maverick placed a boomer on the door and detonated it. The door barely even dented. "Woah..." said the group in unison. As they sat and scratched their heads on what to do, a loud thump was heard from the other side. "What was that?" asked Hitman. Another thump, louder than the first came. "Uhh...." Again a thump. Another and another, it became more persistent. Suddenly the door shot out of its hinges, and flew 50 feet into the wall where the group had just passed. "What the hell???!!!!!!" said a stunned Lance. |

Chapter 17: Demonstration
A 20 foot tall mech stood in front of them. "Holy crap..." said everyone in unison. "Prepare to be eliminated," said the monotone robotic voice. It raised one of it's massive arms and pointed it at the group. "RUN!!!!" Lance dove through the combat mech's legs just as 3 pounds of shotgun ammo spewed out of its arm. "Take cover guys!" yelled Hitman. Everyone except Lance dove for cover. Lance slid behind an equipment terminal, and began hacking it, praying the mech would not see him. Luckily it didn't, as the slight beep echoed from the equipment terminal, signifying it was now hacked. Lance clicked on a full suit of decimators and, emerging from his hiding spot began launching them. "DIE YOU BUCKET OF SCREWS!!" he screamed. 3 rockets flew straight into the mech, and although it was taken aback, it quickly gained control back. Lance rolled on the ground, avoiding the mech's shots, and firing off rockets whenever he could. One rocket hit the meck in the kneecap, causing it to stutter and drop down to a kneel. "Well thats a start," thought Lance to himself. Taking advantage of this, he came within a few feet of the mech and fired off the rest of his rockets into the machine's head. When the smoke had cleared, he sighed a heavy sigh of relief as the machine was laying stomach down, while what was left of its head was plastered against the wall, 20 feet away. "Ok guys, you can come out now." After making sure the mech was indeed vanquished, Lance and his friends started surveying the room for a way out. "I'll check this computer. Maybe it has a map of the facility on it," said Kelly. She began typing and saw the map tab on the menu. "Found something," she exclaimed. Everyone crowded around the computer to see what the map showed. Their faces went to a frown as they saw a screen showing a detailed map Cyssor, showing which bases were whose and even the individual New Conglomerate and Vanu units. "Well, looks like the Vanu are doing pretty good," said Lance in a half caring voice. "Try pushing this button," offered Bismarck. A map of the entire globe came up. "Well, looks like this isn't it." Kelly went to click another tab, but the mouse slipped and instead she clicked on oshur. Surprised that the NC had the technology to view individual base conditions on non home continents, everyone's eyebrows suddenly shot up. What had previously been a sea of purple, with advancing troops and the purple base SOI's, suddenly was nothing but barren terrain. The numerous purple ants that were moving towards the warpgate were decimated, with only some on the edges of the map still moving. "Oh my gosh..." |

Chapter 18: Withdrawal
"Continue pushing! We've almost taken Gunuku!! After this base goes purple, Cyssor will be ours!" barked General Exarkun over the coms of his soldiers. Suddenly, what had been a loud ramble of thousands of soldiers chatting and reporting on the com became defeaning silence. "WHAT THE HELL?!" came several shouts. "What's wrong?" "GENERAL!!!!!!!! OSHUR IS GONE!!!!" "What the hell do you mean???" "A GIANT EXPLOSION! OSHURS GONE NOW! OUR ARMY IS BLOW TO PIECES!!!" And indeed it was. Nothing but scattered pieces of metal remained of the once pround continent. 9/10 of the Vanu invasionary force had been whiped out while trying to come to Cyssor. "H...here sir," choked a shaky private. The general grabbed the video report and plugged it onto the monitor. His jaw dropped as he saw a thin line of light shoot down into the courtyard of Hvar, and suddenly erupt into a storm of fire. "My... God," is all he could stammer as the fire continued to swirl for several minutes and finally ceased. "Dare I ask... how many troops died?" "Nearly 3000 sir..." "Damn you Cent...DAMN YOU!" "We have no choice but to withdraw! I don't know when another strike could come. We can't risk it. RETREAT ALL TROOPS!" The purple army, who was on the verge of breaking into the Gunuku CC suddenly broke backwards into a ragged and swift retreat, screaming at each other with confusion. Looks of utter dumbfoundedness arose on the faces of the NC grunts who were only a minute before preparing to recall out of the base. Within a few hours, the Vanu had finished their retreat and Cyssor was completely blue again. "YES! IT WORKED!!!" shouted 50cent. Cheers went up over the intercom of the secret bunker. Lance and his friends stared blankly at the screen. "They just blew up Oshur..." "Wow...." "We've got to stop them from using it on us!" shouted Lance to break the stupor. "Right! Well we have to let High Command know! Look here, it says that the "weapon" recharges over a period of 2 weeks. We've got to get back to the sanctuary!" shouted Hitman. As the last words came out of his mouth, a guard ran into the room, and before being brought down by gunfire, shouted over his com, "THEY'RE IN THE MAP ROO---!" "Damn. Let's get moving!" Sprinting through the halls, Lance's squad were forced to take down more Conglomerates before finally coming upon the exit. "We've got to find a place to lay low until they stop looking for us!" shouted Maverick. Lance wasn't listening though. His eyes were fixed on an airship speeding toward the exit to the bunker at full afterburners. Everyone's heads turned towards the aircraft, barreling towards them. "DUCK!!" There was a massive explosion that rocked the entire compound. The last thing Lance could see before the power was knocked out was a steel wall flying towards him. |

Chapter 19: He's Back!
Lance felt himself flying through the air, and a hard object slam into him, dislocating his jaw. He could hear the screams of his comrades as well as other soldiers, yelling amidst the crashing of metal and graphite. Explosions rocked the what was left of the tail end of the compound. Lance, after being thrown even farther and finally stopping, huddled down and waited for the noise to cease. After about another minute the ruckus finally died down. Lance felt his jaw sag to one side, and attempted to pop it back in himself. "OWWWWW! DAMNIT!" he yelped. "Lance? Lance that you?" asked Hitman. "Yeah! Hitman you alright man?" "Yeah, I'm good." Lance reached for a small light on his agile helmet, now covered in numerous dents from the collisions. A thin beam streaked into the darkness. Lance could see the walls were caved in and the ground was astrewn with wreckage. "Anyone else out there?" he asked. "Yeah, we're both fine," said Bismarck. Kelly and he emerged from the wreckage and waved. "Maverick? Maverick???" There was no response. "MAVERICK?!" "Hello there chaps!" came a new, but familiar voice. "WTF? Crunch???!" "It's that time again! Right-oh chaps!" shouted Crunch, obviously buzzing from several beers. "What the hell are you doing here?!" "Well I was trying to find you n00bs. I had gotten a Vanu transmission saying he had found the Terran prisoners in a bunker on Cyssor. I figured those prisoners were you guys, so I flew over here. Then my damn plane lost power in mid flight and I had to bail out. Sorry bout that." "Well we're all ok, but we can't find Maverick," said Bismarck. "Oh he's right here. Poor bloke got beamed in the head by a flying cynder block. He should be alright though, just knocked out." "Well, you bring him with us. We have to get out of this place. Hopefully the smurfs think we're dead," replied Lance. "By the way... who is this?" said Crunch in a smooth voice as he gestured towards Kelly. "Kelly Larsen, New Conglomerate scientist/convert," she responded somewhat flatly. "Ah the Conglomerate men weren't your type eh?" "Perhaps, but it doesn't seem the Terran men are either," she said with a slight smile. Crunch frowned and scratched his head. "Alright cut the small talk. Let's go already," piped Bismarck. So they set off once again, Crunch dragging Maverick by his arms, complaining all the way. Meanwhile... "What the hell was that?!!" asked a now furious 50cent. "Sir, it appears a Terran reaver crashed right into the back of the compound." "Oh fuggin great! Now we have to relocate! Well any sign of the ones we were chasing???" "Sir, one of our guards spotted them right at the tail entrance, only a few seconds before the plane crashed. They've got to be gone." "Well, at least that's one less thorn in my side. Grab the plans and lets get to Gunuku. On your way out blow what's left of this place sky high." "Yes Sir!" The soldier saluted and ran off to tell another guard what was happening. The group of 6 had been walking for about 2 hours, heading north along the east coast. Lance had filled Crunch in on the explosion, and what they were up against now. While Crunch was yelling obscenities about the New Conglomerates, Maverick awakened and following a greeting to Crunch, stood up and began walking alongside the other 5. "Anyone have a com that works on them?" asked Hitman. "Hitman, we're on a locked continent... we can't send coms." "What the hell are we gonna do??!" exclaimed Crunch. "I've got an idea!" said Lance. He pulled out the handheld map that he had stolen from the compound. "Faro is at 10 percent power. If we hurry, we can sneak into the courtyard, wait for the ant to come, kill the driver and wait for the base to go neutral. Then we fill it back up, and hopefully hold on to the hack." The group exchanged looks of doubtfulness and remained silence. Crunch broke the silence. "Well, we're dead anyways. Let's go for it!" Everyone nodded their heads slowly, agreeing that this was their only chance. "Hope you chaps are ready for a swim," Crunch said as he pointed towards the river that surrounded Faro. Chapter 20: Deception
After flipping on their oxygen tanks in their armor suits, the Terrans dove into the river surrounding Faro. Within 10 minutes, they arrived on the shore, breathing heavily. It was now 1:00 AM, so the chance of them being spotted was minimal. Still they crawled through the tall grass, and took every precaution to make sure they were not seen. They finally made it to the walls of Faro, just as a faint motor made itself known in the distance. "That's the ANT," whispered Lance. Knowing that time was running out, the group had to take the chance of running into the base. Luckily there was a lone patrolman sitting on top of the airpad, and after shooting him down with his repeater, Lance was able to find the group a hiding spot in a stairwell. Not one minute after they had settled in, they heard the ANT chugging along towards the silo, followed by the squeeling of its brakes. "Wait for it..." The man driving it, a thin, scrawny looking soldier obviously assigned to mundane tasks such as this, popped the door open. Lance knew it was time. He crept out of the sliding door, and going prone, fired 3 shots into the cranium of the unsuspecting trooper. He collapsed to the ground in a bloody pool. "Right. Hitman, you hack the ANT. Maverick will stay with you and help you guard. The rest of us will lay a hack on this base once it goes neutral." Just as Lance finished his sentence, the base switched to a pale green hue, signifying it had gone neutral. Lance and his crew hurried off towards the main entrance. Just as Hitman finished the hack, he heard a faint voice coming from the dead soldier. "McCray! Why is the base neutral?! McCray???" It was McCray's com. Maverick hurriedly picked it up and imagining McCray's voice to be somewhat whiny and irritating, responded. "Uhhh sorry sir. I ran into a tree on the way over here, slowed me down a bit." "You moron! Well hurry up and fill it now!" Maverick knew that a hack was about to be placed on the base, a red hack. "Sir, I just spotted a Terran maurader sitting near the entrance," he lied. "Make sure whoever's there doesn't get a hack!" Not 5 seconds after he had finished speaking, the base displayed a red flag on the map. "I'm sending a squad to help you. Protect the ANT," barked the commander. Maverick tried to stall him. "Wait a minute! I see him! He's on the roof!" lied Maverick again. Then while leaving his com on he fired 15 random shots from a gauss rifle he had stolen from McCray. "Got him. No need to send reinforcements, sir." "Fine. Make sure you rehack this base after you fill it up." "Yes sir." Maverick shut his com off and deployed his ANT, and then, after waiting for it to fill up, rushed off towards the control console of the base. He met Lance and company on the third floor, and after briefly telling him what was happening, devised a plan to throw off the commander long enough for the hack to go through. It had been 8 minutes since the hack was started. Maverick knew the commander was growing impatient. After stalling for two more minutes, he came on the com again. "Had to take out another bogy. Hacking now." He activated his REK pointing it towards the ceiling. "Almost. Wait!" He shut off his REK and, keeping his com on, pretended to hear an enemy's footsteps. After another minute of silence he began firing more random shots from his gauss. "Shit! I'm pinned down by 2 bogys!" he yelled over the com. "Right, dispatching troops now!" More gunfire erupted over the com, and then there was a loud explosion of a grenade, followed by two screams. "Got em... he groaned. They tore me up pretty bad though. I can barely move..." "Do you need help or not McCray?!" "No, I think I can crawl over there." Only 2 minutes remained on the hack. Maverick made painful noises as he pretended to crawl over to the CC. Lance, Bismarck and Crunch could hardly stifle their laughs. With 30 seconds left, Maverick once again pretended to hack. "Almost.. got i---" He slumped to the ground and made a loud 'Ugh' noise. "Damnit. I need a squad over at Faro asap. We'll have to recapture it. McCray has gone and got himself killed. As soon as the commander finished speaking, Maverick crushed the com, and grinned from ear to ear as his comrades gave him a huge round of applause. "Bloody great acting mate!" said Crunch. "Yeah, if we ever capture Auraxis, you definitely have a career in acting," joked Lance. And then the walls around them turned red. Faro was now under Terran control. |
