problem is many of those games were destroyed by hacks with ease. PB has become a joke to hackers. They even know how to re-write it's code and make it false hack others they target. |

Okay, enough.
Guys, chill. Sit down, light a cig, get your hands in ya pants, and just chill. Because obviously, you have no clue. You compare games here that literally only used Punkbuster as AC with a game that uses punkbuster as ONE of MANY ways to deal with cheaters. Obviously they wont go into detail on that stuff, but we do know some stuff: They have a entire TEAM, means everal guys, working JUST on the AC stuff. They have a in-house engine, forgelight, that is much much more than just a bunch of shaders. Forgelight handles everything, from the servers, to the traffic, to the game. With such a powerful tool, there is literally nothing that stops SOE from doing very, very cruel stuff to cheaters. Also, who knows what kind of deal they have with the PB folks? They may as well just took the basic package, and now develop their own breed of punkbuster, without the annoying stuff, but with extra cheat protection. Really, stop this mindless, useless bitching. Be constructive, or shut da crapholes! |

So would you be willing to confirm that you guys have researched the incalculable number of complaints with the punkbuster software, and have found the combined anguish of those users, does not outweigh any potential alternative?

I have the faith that the team at SOE know what they are doing. im just here to voice my op.
hackers for the most part are just sad little kids, regardless of age. the hackers that make, sell, and distribute the hacks are relentless . they will find a way, they always do.punkbusters just dosnt seem to be up to par when it comes to hack prevention. In a game like ps2 where the pop is huge, your going to have big problems when hacks break out. massive amounts of death. |

I don't think anybody is disputing that PS2 devs will do a betterjob than other games on the hacker issue.
most people are just saying PB alone is a joke (atleast that's what I'm saying) But if they are gonna use multiple layers of hacker defense then that is kool. Your never gonna stop hackers completely.. but you can slow their roam in your game etc. hopefully they really do dedicate many layers and alot of people to this issue as it's gonna be the break or make point for this game. The hackers are already talking on their forums about how they can't wait to get in the beta and full release and cause havoc |

As a player of the majority of the games that Punkbuster is sworn to defend, I must agree that I have seen my fair share of hackers on these games.
The fact that SoE, and especially Higby and CyclesMcHurtz, is touting Punkbuster like it is not a terrible piece of garbage speaks volumes to the funding they received for hack prevention. I do not expect GMs monitoring the game if this is the best they can come up with. "We're using in-house anti-hack software" would fare better for me. |

I just feel that Sony, after everything they went through would be more sensitive to the whole hacking situation. I am hoping for the best but I really don't find hackers to be a game breaker.
Higby has said over and over he hates hackers as much as we do, and we all know how much he loves this game and this community. He won't let us down, and if he does it won't be from lack of effort. |

Wait, Punkbuster is still in business? Last game I touched with PB in it was BF Vietnam. But then I had to uninstall the game cause it was causing some problem with my computer. Can't quit remember, had something to do with random crashes, even when the game wasn't running. So it took a wile to figure out it was sPunkBuster doing it.
I've pretty much ignored/don't play, or pirate (since pirated versions don't have PB) games that have PB on them. It's become a habit, since I feel the frustrations it potentially causes don't get out weighed by the game I'm playing it with. It's been over a decade and all I hear are people with horror stories or it not doing its job, even on newer titles. Does not instil confidence in me, even now. edit: I do remember having some game with VAC once. Never had a problem. Never heard anything bad about it from anyone either.
