Just watched the video.... very good as always (even tho it's had to be cut short).
It was very good news about the return of SOI's. And yes, I'd pay for the tablet apps! Gernator are good (and with the prospect of Ants in the future) I'm not totally convinced about the gameplay to spread the fighting out. But, in the ComicCon Higby said that the pop cap of 2000 doesn't mean a split of one third for each faction -> which means that unbalanced populations on a individual continent can permit the fight to move and that's good. PS1 originally had imbalanced pop caps. Two empires could hit the normal pop cap, but the third would poplock at roughly 50% of the pop the other two did. This helped move the battle and reduced the impact of the third empire, but it also made the battle progression clear cut with no real options for alternatives.
