Without giving it much thought - Remote Beams, R-Beams for short? It would even fit the overall naming scheme (like I-Fields, for instance), now that I think about it!

It may just be me, but "funnel" just sounds bad. Like it's a sex toy or something. :P

Well they look like a Funnel so I guess that's why they call them that.

So no one is really against the idea for the MAX melee......Isn't that great...

It could encourage bad/dumb behaviors like a max running up to melee someone when they could have just as easily shot them. The act of the max running up also means other people shooting at the target could likely hit the big bulky max that just ran into their line of fire, causing them grief.

So it seems like max melee is neat and interesting, but doesn't appear to have any purpose and possible negative effects. It just begs the question - "why?"

Until they say otherwise I'm going to run on the assumption that it's something to punish people for getting too close to MAXes, rather than a primary weapon. By default a MAX is slower than any infantry, so I figure the worst we'll see is a MAX crashing into an enemy strongpoint and forcing the defenders to scatter out of melee range. Which doesn't sound too bad at all to me.

Max Melee, for close quarters, when the opponent runs infront of you.

Speed of maxes and slow-down from max-run. not viable on offensive.
