remember that we don´t know a thing about the server they used for this alpha gdc thing! i don´t think they already used the full capacity final server, but an intern substitute. so the lag jumping vehicles don´t say anything about what we will see in the beta.
also they told us, that the game is far from optimized. so i don´t worry about lag. want beta!

Excellent work Higby. I love these walk throughs, i am a frequenter (not a word) of Gametrailers, so its nice to see a high class video of a game i care about being put up there.
But seriously, show us how many things we will see on screen at once (screen shot). I need specifics, i will even take a rough figure before optimisation.

A couple of interesting points, from watching the video and reading comments here:
-Laggy tanks: I believe it's been said that a netcode update was issued either the same day as the GDC presentation or the next day, and fixed that issue. So perhaps it's been resolved for now? -Sunderer: That thing was really haulin' it across the terrain. Looked like fun, but before we start complaining about it, let's remember that vehicle speed is something that's probably subject to change based on what's learned in beta. I wouldn't be surprised to see that slow down a bit, but perhaps not, since they're trying to focus on getting players into action quickly. -NC: As a NC player, I'm loving the focus on our empire in the footage, I don't know what the rest of you guys are complaining about :P -Vehicles vs. infantry: I can't help but notice that we've seen lots more vehicle action vs. infantry. Looking forward to seeing more infantry gameplay in future videos, most of what we've seen so far looks like light assault, I can't wait to see what a base battle is like from the perspective of an infiltrator or HA player. It's an excellent video though, the quality is great, and I actually like that it's not very long because it'll serve as a great introduction to show interested players. It's a little intimidating to try and tell people to watch a 45 minute GDC video to learn what Planetside is. |

I could easily imagine a situation where a single player could pull a tank and be combat-effective against other ground vehicles and somewhat against infantry, but needing a gunner for AA abilities or increased anti-infantry effectiveness. A tank is a pretty high-value target for aircav, so having AA capability on a tank might be a de-facto requirement. |
