Re: Santorum Drops Out

I'd like to know what exactly you have against socialism. Did a socialist touch you in the naughty place as a child? Its just another way of doing things, one with both positives and negatives, same as with capitalism.

No system is perfect. Some things are better handled by consumer demand. The government has no need to be in the cell phone business(except insofar as it regulates the electromagnetic spectrum, a public, and very limited, resource).

Some are better heavily regulated. Unlicensed nuclear power plants would be a Very Bad idea.

Some are better handled by private industry. No, we don't need a state owned TV station like the BBC.

Some are better handled by government. I don't think anyone wants to go back to the days of for profit fire services letting houses burn because the owners won't pay them.

When did 'socialist' become a swear word to you?

Democrats aren't socialists if you actually know what both mean. The Daily Show had a funny segment on this very topic:

Democrats are not just going to come out and claim they are a socialists. No, they have to lie and hide behind another label.

Just as liberals have stopped using the word liberal to describe themselves. Now we want to be called progressives. Just as a democrat will hardly ever tell you want they really think. A few will here on this forum and its kinda scary.

Just go back to the 08 Obama campaign. Higher gas/energy prices, fundamentally change America from top down, etc...

You are everything that is wrong with the political discourse in this country. If they were to make a propaganda poster to exemplify what is wrong with our political climate, it'd be you, saying that, and maybe Bill Maher, just striking a pose in front of a television set.

Just like how republicans guise themselves as republicans when they're really corporate agenda whoring fascists? See I can make rash generalizations and completely dumb and asinine comments too!!

Plus Obama has nothing to do with energy prices. For example oil prices are set by speculators. If a bee farts in the Persian gulf or a man sneezes on a pipe price will go up. The president has no say in oil/gas prices. So please don't give me or other people on this forum that BS.

Could you provide some evidence for your claims?

The democrats have done nothing socialist. They are practically clones of republicans just without the crazed religious people (well, not nearly as numerous) backing them.
One favours tax cuts and aid for one end of the scale and the other favours the same for the other side of the scale.

Are you really naive enough to believe that the US Government has NOTHING to do with energy prices?

Moratorium on offshore drilling, keystone pipeline, no lease for drilling on government owned property, no new oil refineries, EPA cracking down on coal power planets, no new permits for nuclear power. Just in Illinois alone we are shutting down a half dozen power planets because it would be to expensive to meet EPA requirements. I could go on and on. So with that said do you not see why speculators are seeing energy prices higher? Simple economics higher demand less supply = higher prices. This is not rocket science.

Edit: also forgot the value of the dollar is going lower with historic low interest. Why? http://www.usdebtclock.org/

Any luck on finding a tax payer to subsidize your living expenses while your "busy learning" at college?

God forbid power plants have to conform to EPA standards and guidelines. Plus coal fired plants are extremely inefficient and harmful as is so cracking down on them is justified. Government has everything to do on U.S. soil nothing abroad admittedly greener energy option should be sought and aggressively pursued but alas there quite a few limiting "factors" in our government that hampers this.

You cited gas prices going up because of Obama; I said he doesn't control and cant control over seas speculating and price setting. If anything my dear boy its not his fault its the companies that try get as much profit as possibles fault.

So now you do agree with me that Government can impact the price of energy? Must hurt getting impaled by that fence you're trying to straddle.

On U.S. Soil, yes most definitely. Then again all you can do is try and regulate it for government can't directly set prices in the private sector.

Nice comeback.

I'll pay back my student fees (not the loan) within 2-3 years with the average graduate income. After that I'm making a profit for the governments investment.
