Hello everyone,
If you have been watching The War Report I would like to thank you since it's a fun project for myself and one that I hope to continue to work on moving forward. Myself and Jax are looking to improve the experience and I want to being to create relationships with the PS2 community so that we can get more amazing Outfits to join in on the fun and on different servers as well! If you believe you're Outfit is ready for war then leave some contact info below or just send me a PM! I also want to improve the show as a whole and I want to know what would make you tune in week in and week out! As for myself I know that I have to improve my game knowledge but you will be happy to know I have been playing a lot more and that won't be an issue for long! (Also Jax has a wealth of knowledge as well) So that's it! Thanks for the support and if you also want to connect with me off of Reddit feel free to tweet me at @GoldenboyFTW! Thanks again! |

My main gripe with MLG is showing recorded videos as live. I do not know of one showing that was real live gameplay. Why use Twitch if it's just a recording?
Other than that it isn't that bad. Knowing the game is vital but that comes with time. I do offer a tip of sticking to the outfit you're following more or choosing to do a base to base thing. Zerg fights are massive fights that happen anywhere. Outfit fights take a bit to get going. Outfits need time to setup and defend or pick when to attack. PS2 will have low times unlike other shooters thanks to the need of so many people and thinking how, when, where to attack and to attack with what. Im certain that the battle islands will have a lot of down time as well. Higby said 7 bases right? Well even with a steam roll that would be about 15 minutes at least depending on how long it takes to cap a base and if each side is given 3 bases at the start. If both sides only start with one then the times can get to the hour mark easy. Then you have to account for cap blocking, vehicle/aircraft/MAX timers, resource gain rates, and what else that might be done in a fight to delay the enemy or whatever. Action will be there, just can't always be there. |

The last War report was by far the best. Which helped as it was pre recorded.
Commentating was exciting, And much better understanding of what was going on for the viewer. Also the camera movement is much better. I am now interesting in getting my outfit on there as it does show you in good light. Sent you a PM goldenboy.

One thing everyone I know who watches the Planetside part of the show does say you need to work on your terminology for Planeside
Some FPS jargon works across all boarders but PS has it's own language Small case in point, Planetside 2 doesn't have Clans we have Outfits.

Thank you for posting on these forums Goldenboy! It shows dedication and interest.
If you both are really working towards being able to distinguishing and calling out what is being used (eg. calling a Liberator its proper name), and the most recent episode shows a bit of that, there is little negative feedback to be had. Once you understand the game, the reports will naturally be more entertaining and fun to watch. I appreciate you're working towards that, and I hope you're having fun in the process. There is one more area I feel you have to work towards, however; that is, communication with the participating outfits. Too often did I see groups of people doing what you asked them minutes before. I don't think it's fun for them, and I certainly don't find it fun to watch as there's less real action on screen. Hopefully this is just a gripe that is going to be resolved before I even realise though! Thank you again for interacting with the community. I wish you and the War Report all the best |

Thanks for dropping by Goldenboy!
I think much of what is needed to make the fights more interesting in this type of setting is systems the developers are still working on that are out of your hands. It's very difficult to organize fights without interruption or a wrench being thrown in. Aside from that I will echo what others have said. Start to bury yourself in the community and start to understand the terminology and hot topics that are going on. There's lots of resources on this including our wiki, but much of it is just learned by being a part of the community and playing. And of course check out some of the organized stuff on Twitch, just be careful which ones you pay attention to they aren't all representative of this community as a whole. |

I do however like the mini challenges that happened in the first few episodes. One thing that I would suggest would be to occasionally capture some highlights of massive battles ("in the wild") and commentating on those in exchange for videos like the killstreak video that was presented at the end of the Higby interview on the latest episode. |

Well it might be good if you (OP) would share with us what you think is needed of the game in order to make it appeal better to MLG then we can critique and/or share ideas from there.

Besides terminology and an understanding of the map and the tactics used to win battles, soe needs to come through and help you out with the view cam. The view can needs upgrading in many different ways.
1-zoom 2-enhanced night vision 3-hook on to a player third person view 4-first person view Without these tools its going to be hard to follow the action because that shit moves fast. |

One thing I'd like to see is the commentators using faction specific instead of team specific colors for the players. This way we can clearly see who is who even when the commentators are different factions and we jump between their view points quickly.

Some critique and other random thoughts (some of it has been stated before, so it may just serve as reinforcement of oppinion) :
One thing I did react to was when you were saying that "so and so" just took out a galaxy or "managed to kill a good number of them". How? Be more specific and detailed in the manner and style they did it. Was it a particualrly lucky dumbfire Shrike rocket launcher? A perfectly (mis-)placed anti personel mine that wiped half a (friendly?!) squad? A mad but highly successful Rambo rush by a light assult? It's even more important to vocally paint the picture for the viewer if the camera didn't quite capture the action. Also, what has changed since the last episode? Is this having an effect on the fight we're watching? Are one team trying out a new tactic based on current changes and is that being countered in a specific manner? I know these things comes naturally with experience and familarity (perhaps even expertise) with the game, but it is oh so important as it lends weight to credibility. Keep at it! Also, the rivalry between the empire is something that can not be stressed enough in the game. I know you're spotlighting individual outfits, but in the end, the average planetside player has an affiliation to the empires represented by the outfits rather than the outfits themselves. Utilize that. Don't be afraid to toss in empire tinted comments every now and again along with the outfit names. "The NC MAX crash just..." or "The TR prowler column..." etc. Other than that, the format is pretty decent, but as Hamma said, it's very hard to control the envionment of a "match". Especially in the state the game currently is - a wild, open server where anyone can unintetionally be tipping the scale just by randomly showing up for a good fight. Perhaps do more of a reality show format? Follow one or two opposing outfits along during an alert. How do they tame the chaotic world of planetside? Learn what they do and how they do it. Comment on cool tactics and crazy skill moves etc. Condense the two hours down to the best moments to fill your show if you have to. Atleast untill you have the tools (and knowledge!) to actually measure some form of score tallying for an actual match report. Or cobble together your own in the meantime. There are all types of data being registered that could be your win condition if you manage to fish it out. -What team had the harasser that scored most MBT kills during the first half of an alert? -Who managed to escort a galaxy most laps around a continent before getting shot down? Those type of objectives are less impacted by outside influence than who captures and holds this or that facility. Infact, they take advantage of outside influence. Anyways, keep up with the progress. It's definitly heading in the right direction. |
