im asking on behalf of my mechwarrior clan (Clan Coyote) if PS2 supports joystick play in all modes (air/ground/infantry).
I have introduced them to the game and they are reasonably enthusiastic about it except they have been playing MW with a joystick for 10+ years and are reticent about playing kb&m. |

But yea, only air is confirmed, you could use a joystick for vehciles in PS1 though, so i imagine they will in PS2. Id also figure they will have gamepad support. why anybody would want to use anything other than a mouse when playing as infantry though? i cant answer that. while the mouse for track and wheeled vehicles controls only the turret. in the mag the mouse will control the gun up and down tilt and turning. so driving a mag will be exactly like controlling infantry, but you;r right it could be a little fiddly with a joystick. |

Grab a simple shooter, something hitscanned preferably, like Serious Sam. It should be a good introduction to the basics of movement and aiming. Just play it with just each other a bit and they should pick up WASD easily. There's a reason it's the most common control scheme, and no reason not to try it. Just pick something simple and play private matches where the pressure is low. There are so many great games out there that you simply can't play well with a joystick! |

I'm curious, as i have only played MechWarrior 4: Vengeance. Were the other MechWarrior games as good as that or better? Because using a joystick was basically the only way to play, or else you would have a hard time trying to push 6 different buttons at once. Too bad i never got to play online
But i might see using a joy stick in an aircraft, since i own one but i wouldn't go out of my way to use it. Because i would presume using a mouse would be better for aiming where as the joystick would be good for the flying aspect. So i guess it depends on people's preference, whether they want to be better at flying or better at shooting. |
