I didn't want to hijack someone else's thread....
I have $hit load of tapes (music). I've heard that you can upload it to the comp (then burn in on a CD), with the proper progam of course. So, which program? And what does everyone reccommend? I've got a crap load of underground Metallica tapes I'd like to some how save (plus save me $$$ from having to buy the CD...yes I'm a cheap bastard). |

no your not CD are expensvie pieces of plastic i don't own a single CD.
Basicaly you have to get a Tape Player with a line out, that fits the miniplug line in on your video card. Then you should have some kind of program in your drivers to record from that

I used to do it myself. Simply get a tape player, a double-ended male mini-plug, plug one end into the Headphones or Line-Out of the tape player, and the other end into the AUX or Line-In of your video card. It won't work if you plug it into the Microphone port. Then, simply use a recording program to record the music as you play it.
edit- er, so basically what Rob said |

Ok, just to show how much of a noob I really am...
1) I'm not sure where to download the music (that I already own on tape). 2) Downloading only solves part of the problem, as I do have stuff thats never been released. Plus I have some ancient Russian religious/folk stuff that needs to be taken off tape. 3) I'm assuming Windows Media Player (xp) or Ahead Nero will allow me to convert the tapes? My next and ultimate noob question.... 4) How do I convert WMA files to MP3? (All I have is Windows Media Player which came with XP home and Ahead Nero that came with the burner). |

1) Find a version of Kazaa Lite K++ somewhere. It's hard to find for free anymore, but if you look real hard, you can find it.
2) Anything you can think of is on the internet if you look hard enough. Unreleased songs are a major part of what you can download. 3) Don't think either of those have support for recording from tape to HD to CD. You will need to do it the way electrofreak said if that's the way you decide. Edit: Once you get them on your HD, then you can use nero to burn to a CD. 4) You just need a WMA to MP3 converter. Check www.download.com. Last edited by dscytherulez; 2004-04-28 at 04:24 PM. |

I wouldn't recommend using Kazaa anymore(or K++). You don't really have to worry about the riaa with K++, but the quality of download is horrible. Almost all the songs are cut off, or just loud screeching sometimes... And stupid people don't bother to delete these files if they download them, so they just keep circulating. I use WarezP2P. Yes suspicious name but it has a nice user base so far. Just go to google and search for it, I forget the site.

actually death, i gotta disagree. If you pick the ones with the most users, and you start downloading from like 10 people, all it takes is one person with a corrupt mp3 file and your file ends up corrupt as well. This is why I usually download from one with the least amount of users, sure the download is slower but I'm more likely to get a non-corrupt file.

Yes, I suppose that's true, but most users don't keep currupt files, and even if they do, you just have to redownload it. Only takes a few seconds. Besides, when you download the file that has the least amount of users, there is sometimes (more than not) a reason why there aren't that many users.
I always download from the most users, and I don't have a problem that often. (Of course I'm only downloading songs I own legally. ) |
