Tribes 2
FSX Planetside UT Doom The amount of time spent in the first 3 are unparalled. UT was my introduction to online gaming. And Doom is that scary game you played when you were 8, that more or less introduced me to a mouse.

Planetside
Nothing has ever come close. Delta Force My first game and probably the most important since it was during the 56K modem days where you had to compensate for full seconds of lag instead of milliseconds. UT3 (Instagib) I perfected the fundamentals I learned in DF. If you could hang with the top players in there you could compete with anybody in any game. Rome: Total War The only game where I was more addicted to the single player than multiplayer. COD: United Offensive expansion pack Don't hate me...cod was good back then. The expansion had big maps and vehicles and was the most fun I had since Planetside. |

Company of Heroes: It must be a great game if it can get me to put in so many hours online even when I'm not that good.
KOTOR I & II: I consider them one and the same, there's not really a huge difference, and I beat 'em twice. To put it in perspective, I rarely read a book or play campaigns more then once. BF2: I loved all the battlefields (yes even BF3) but in terms of time put in, BF2 no question. Solid game and a lot of fun. Empire Earth: Best one Comanche 3: Going back into the late 90s, a helicopter sim. Beat the damn thing 5 different times and still loads of fun Honorable Mention: Hearts of Iron 3: I love the game, still needs a little bit of work, but there's another expansion coming so maybe it'll crack the top five. |

Because I'm a punk (and an old fart), here's the 5 I came up with:
1. Night Shift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Shift_(video_game)) 2. Armor Alley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armor_Alley) 3. Ultima IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_..._of_the_Avatar) 4. Doom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_(video_game)) 5. Another World/Out of this World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_World_(video_game)) Special shout out to Ultima Underworld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima_..._Stygian_Abyss) and (Apple ][) Short Circuit (http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/Vie....Detail&id=216) and Spare Change (http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/Vie....Detail&id=111).

Great list, Cycles! Ultima IV and Ultima Underworld could reasonably make any list of the Top Ten Most Influential Games. Particularly Underworld - this is THE basis for the first-person shooter as we know it (since Underworld leads to Wolfenstein 3D, leads to Doom, we all know the rest).
For anyone who likes these sort of lists, check out http://www.unikgamer.com/, it's pretty fun. Last edited by Aerothorn; 2012-08-20 at 05:56 PM. |

Quake (Single player gameplay plus the NiN music was over the top)
Quake II (First real multiplayer experience with LAN style gaming) Command and Conquer, Red Alert. (Two words. Tesla Coil) Company of Heroes (Most of the German phrases I know are from this game, not like I'd use them to order coffee in Berlin but its still the most authentic as far as ambient atmosphere in a game that I've seen) That's only 4, but I'm not going to put something up there that doesn't deserve it. Noticeably absent from this list: Planetside (wanted to play it, never had the rig or the $ for a sub) Other games Ive spent way more time in than the above (they are fun, but don't compare to the level of awesomeness from start to end in the above) Last edited by Galron; 2012-08-20 at 07:35 PM. |
