Mr.Vic does WoW Beta

Okay, after breaking down and hearing all the love for WoW I DL'd the beta and got on.

First impressions?

Solid servers, only one beta down, and that was short, rarely lost con, maybe twice.

The game...

Uhg, I feel like I am in a twisted cartoon. The characters look... well like the Warcraft 3 game, but in a MMO sense, I felt very small. It was odd. I played a mage, a warrior and rogue, all alliance.

I was going NUTZ from two aspects of the game.

1. The quests, to go kill X named mob. I think I spent 10 minutes trying to kill one, cause there were twenty people there and the higher levels were camping the sapwn. And I have YET to see Princess the Pig spawn more then once. And a lvl 10 killed it when it did. Joy.

Spawn camping mobs is not IMHO fun.

2. Collect/Kill X number of so-an-so mob. Can we say BLEAH? I ran around a mine chock full of mobs, only problem was it was full of people hunting the same danged thing. I either had to run in circles hoping to catch a sapwn,a nd then kill it, or jsut happen upon one. Had four times where I started the fight, but someone get the kill cause they hit more.

Thats just really... not fun.

I like the WC series, but the sapwn camping and killstelaing to finsih off mobs just pissed me off. I'll keep at it for another week, and when my EQII copies arrive I will give ya;ll a break down of that.

Overall, easy to play, fast paced, low down time with little "death penalty" annoyance. But the above two big issues I had, were driving me up the wall.

Those two issues won't be there forever. During closed beta, I hardly EVER had to deal with spawn camping, or mobs not being there. The only reason it's like that is because there is a HUGE influx of players all doing the same thing at once. Don't give up just yet.

Like I said, I will give it a week, and then go into EQII live and see what I think.

One thing though Stry, the more people that enter beta, the worse its going to get, and when the game goes live... I wouldn't touch it with a 10 meter pole for atleast 2-3 months.... the noobvilles will be impossible to get anything done. BLEAH.

The first few weeks/months of retail will be a bit crowded, but there is no way around that. Look at any other MMORPG (dare I say EQII? - because that game will be worse than WoW as far as crowded at retail) and you'll see the trend.

EQII is even worse; Isle of Refuge: Collecting bones from about 6 spawning skeletons, with about 10 people around is impossible (think about retail, even more people). Also, that is the point of these stress tests; push the servers, and fix spawn times on mobs, the devs even said next patch they are twinking em.

Did you group?

at all?

It sounds like you didn't. Many of the problems you faced are less noticable or fixed in group play. i.e. 4 or 5 lvl 7s are bound to outdamage 1 lvl 10.

Actually, WoW has instanced zones, starting at about 10-15 depending on your starting race. No matter what, though, you should be in an instance by at least level 22.
