GF FX tests

http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030127/index.html

Now, i must say i'm really not impressed at all by the GF FX. Not at all what i would expect from the card whit all its delays.

btw, download the mp3's... thats a damn noicy card!

btw since this isn't a tech problem i posted it here and not the tech forum but by all means move it if it's the wrong place.

God almighty. I didn't see the last few pages cause Tom's got wormed, but from what I saw, nVidia really fell off the boat. The card is months and months older than the 9700 pro, and in some tests, it doesn't even perform as well. If that sound problem keeps up they won't ship 100 of the cards. They better get their act together, the new radeon will be out in the summer....

Wow, that's dissapointing.

When a new card doesn't clearly outperform it's current competitor, I believe that company has failed in accomplishing it's goals. The FX should have outperformed the 9700 in every test they ran, but even in the ones that the FX did win, the 9700 was close behind. Now what happens if ATI can release a card in the next month that outperforms the FX? Still at $399, it isn't a terrible investment (assuming you have the proper cooling) for someone purchasing or building a new system (although I will be using the 9700), but I certainly don't expect anybody with the 9700 to rip it out to get that monster into their system.

That mp3 sound of the FX booting up is ridiculous. It sorta sounds similar to sticking a few baseball cards into the spokes of your bicycle. I couldn't get the other 2 mp3s to play.

I do find it amusing how different these benchmarks are from the ones Nvidia was trying to fool everyone with.

I think they knew what was up, that's why they only allowed certain test before, look at which ones...they aren't even winning all of those now. I think they knew it, but also knew they had to get it out the door before the next radeon. The biggest dif in fps I saw was about 15 fps. I'd pick the 9700pro, which beats the fx about 25% of the time, is steadier, and performs much better maxed out; over the FX, and I'd be 100bucks better off for it.

What happens if Radeon puts the same distance between the FX and it's new card that it did with the GeForce 4s? Does that mean the nVidia will officially swap places with radeon? That's what it looks like to me, hell Radeon even has great drivers now.

Well i'm actually kinda glad the FX "sucks". Will make buying the 9700pro a better thing. I already dunno if i can get all my stuff in time for PS so cheaper card = cool!

Yep, even the best comps out there still don't max out the 9700 pro, and all of it's options aren't even utilized yet. I can't see why you pay more for that "vacuum cleaner".

u guys are missing the whole idea of the GF FX. while the 9700 goes for absolute brute force, nvidia's going the way of better language, less bottlenecks, and open pipelines. id take the nvidia card over any radeon one

Did you look at the results and tests? It didn't work if that was what they were going for. If you max our everything the radeon takes the lead. If you're looking at value, I can't see why anyone would buy the FX. Also, they say they're gonna fix the noise, but how do you make the fan quieter?

it's vice versa....

Radeons use lower clocks speeds to get the framerates and AA/FA.

GF FX is all about brute force whit its higher clock rates to push out more polys pr second. FX is the brute force thing. Nvidias card has the most bottle necks.. i mean look at the specs, 16gb bandwith and a 128bit memory bus

But you sound like an nvidiot annyways =P

no, its not vice versa. read around and u will see that. the 9700 is about brute force, the geforce is about new techniques and less bottlenecking to attain performance

Use a different fan that is quieter.
Run the fan a bit slower.

You think they can make a slower, quiter fan that is still effective to cool that beast?

Also Zatrais "i suggest you sit down and stare really hard at the system specs of the GF FX ultra and radeon 9700 pro". Take your own advice man.
